This position coordinates fabrication activities, equipment usage, maintenance, and user support to ensure efficient and safe operations. The Laboratory Coordinator works under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and provides hands-on technical support to tenants, staff, and users, including assisting with machining, fabrication, and equipment training.\nResponsibilities:\nOperations\nAssists with daily operation of the machine shop\nOperates machining and fabrication equipment, including CNC mills, lathes, welding tools, and related systems\nSupports fabrication of parts, prototypes, and custom components for tenants and Institute programs\nTracks labor, materials, equipment utilization, and fabrication activities to support project planning and service documentation\nPerforms routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment\nMaintains machine shop organization, and inventory of materials, tools, and supplies\nSupports implementation of SOPs and operational workflows\nAdministration and Coordination\nCoordinates and tracks work orders, fabrication requests, shop utilization and project activities\nCoordinates materials, supplies, and tooling needed for machine shop activities\nMaintains documentation for machine shop operations, equipment use, maintenance activities, and user access\nCoordinates machine shop scheduling, equipment reservations, and shop resource utilization with tenants and staff\nAssists Laboratory Manager with procurement and operational planning\nSafety, Training, and User Support\nAssists in training tenants, staff, and users on proper equipment operation and safety procedures\nMonitors machine shop activity to ensure safe and appropriate use of equipment\nProvides real-time guidance and technical support to users operating machinery\nSupports enforcement of safety procedures and regulatory compliance\nPromotes a clean, organized, and safe working environment\nWhat We Need:\nBachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing, Machining, or related field (or equivalent experience)\nFour (4+) years of experience in machining, fabrication, or technical laboratory/shop environments\nOther Requirements:\nThis position is security sensitive and requires United States Citizenship only.\nWhat is Helpful:\nExperience operating CNC and/or manual machining equipment\nTechnical/vocational training in machining or manufacturing\nExperience with robotics, prototyping, or engineering fabrication environments\nFamiliarity with CAD/CAM software and precision measurement tools\nExperience supporting multiple users or projects in a shared lab/shop environment\nWork Location:\nHouston, TX.\nAbout Space Institute:\nThe Texas A&M University Space Institute will advance commercial, government, military, and academic research and development partnerships in support of national and international space endeavors.
