Bringing Healthcare Directly to Texas Communities

The Texas A&M Health Mobile Clinic is transforming access to healthcare across rural and medically underserved communities throughout Texas. Led by dedicated nurse practitioners, this innovative outreach program delivers high-quality primary care services directly where they are needed most.

Operating from a custom-built mobile clinic stationed at local school districts, the program serves not only students, but also faculty, staff, and community members. By bringing healthcare closer to home, the Mobile Clinic helps improve wellness, increase access to care, and strengthen communities across the state.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One year directly related experience serving as a family nurse practitioner.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Requires an active license as a Registered Nurse and as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, in the state of Texas with prescriptive authority and national board certification as a family nurse practitioner.

A well-qualified candidate will also possess

  • At least five years of clinical nursing experience is required.

  • American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Certificate.

  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and electronic health records, some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  • Experience in health professions education is preferred.

  • Familiarity with electronic health records

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Knowledge of standard nursing procedures and techniques.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

Responsibilities:

FNP Practice and Clinical Preceptor

  • Performs history, psychosocial, and physical examinations, diagnosis of acute, chronic, and urgent/episodic primary care conditions, formulates therapeutic plans of care, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic imaging, electrocardiogram exams, medication management and provides education to patients and their families.

  • Coordinates the care of patients to provide safe, effective, efficient, and timely patient-centered care.

  • Liaises between clinical staff and consult services.

  • Consults with physicians and other members of the healthcare team regarding the care of patients as appropriate.

  • Order and evaluate effectiveness of therapeutic modalities such as medications, treatments, diagnostic tests, etc.

  • Performs primary care procedures.

  • Provide primary health care maintenance of the population served, including immunizations and recommended health screenings.

  • Counsel and instruct patients and significant others as appropriate on medications, disease, procedures, and preventive healthcare.

  • Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with policy regarding emergency and consultative call services.

  • Serves as a clinical resource for staff through consultation formal and informal education, review of literature and participation in seminars, conferences, and simulation.

  • Document clinical encounters clearly, precisely, and in a timely manner.

  • Applies, models, and teaches evidence-based treatment and care in clinical setting.

  • Precepts advance practice and pre-licensure nursing students each semester

  • Promotes cost savings and optimal patient experience in primary care.

  • Participates in rapid cycle continuous process improvement.

  • Participates in data reporting.

  • Participates in scholarly projects as appropriate.

What You Need to Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.

Location/Schedule: Crockett, Texas or Bryan, Texas locations. This is a part time PRN position with the hours of 8a-5p. The days of the week vary depending on the need of the clinic and candidate availability.

Other: Depending upon the nature of your position, you may be required to receive immunizations (excluding COVID and Flu).

Please note: This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding.
