The primary purpose of this position is to lead the insect colony care that supports ongoing research in our Controlled Environment Agriculture Entomology program. This position will also help staff and graduate students prepare for fieldwork, and support basic sample preparation and data collection in the lab, greenhouses and high tunnel.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the husbandry and maintenance of colonies including whiteflies, thrips, aphids, ladybugs, and big-eyed bugs.
Assist with preparing supplies and materials for insect experiments.
Assist with data collection and experiment clean up.
Miscellaneous tasks in the lab, greenhouse or high tunnel may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled at a community college or university.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Preferred qualifications:
Previous experience working with insects and vegetable plants.
Some supervisory experience.
