Your mission

At Teya, we are building the future of financial services for independent local businesses across Europe. Regulation shapes what we can offer them, how quickly we can launch it, and on what terms. As the Regulatory Affairs Lawyer in the Corporate and Regulatory Affairs team, you will take the regulatory questions the business puts to us, run our licensing work in the UK and the EU, and carry Teya's positions into public policy in both jurisdictions on behalf of independent local businesses.

You will report to the General Counsel and Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs. You will work with colleagues across Legal, Compliance, Risk, Product, and Commercial, and with external counsel, regulators, and trade bodies in London and Brussels.

Responsibilities

• Manage licensing work in the UK and the EU, including new authorisations, variations of permission, passporting, and cross-border notifications.

• Support Compliance in day-to-day engagement with the FCA and EU national competent authorities on applications, supervisory queries, and notifications.

• Manage Teya's public policy work in the UK and the EU on behalf of independent local businesses, covering the review of payments legislation, the digital euro, digital identity, and the other files that affect how local businesses engage with financial services.

• Draft position papers, consultation responses, and briefings for policymakers, and represent Teya in trade associations and industry working groups.

• Manage Teya's participation in the Scale-up Unit, from setting our agenda to preparing submissions and following through on the outcomes.

• Work closely with Legal, Compliance and Risk to address regulatory questions across the business, from product design through to market entry.

• Track regulatory and legislative developments in both jurisdictions and communicate how they may affect Teya and the local businesses we serve, and how our strategy should evolve in line with a changing political and regulatory landscape.

Requirements

• A qualified lawyer in England and Wales, with four to seven years of experience in financial services regulation, in-house, in private practice, or at a regulator.

• Working knowledge of UK and EU financial services regulation and relevant policy developments in both jurisdictions.

• Experience of drafting position papers, consultation responses, and internal advice in plain English.

• The ability to run several workstreams at once, with external advisers and internal stakeholders, to deadlines set by regulators.

• An interest in financial services, public policy, and improving the financial and regulatory landscape for independent businesses.

• Previous experience of licensing or authorisation work with the FCA, the PRA, or an EU national competent authority is preferred.

• Demonstrable experience in public policy, regulatory engagement and advocacy is essential.
