You’ll lead a team of five engineers with a mix of experience and specialisms, helping them do their best work while staying close enough to the code and architecture to make strong technical decisions.\nYou’ll partner closely with Product, Design, QA, and Documentation, shape the roadmap, and play a key role in how the team adopts AI across the software development lifecycle from planning and coding through to review and testing. You’ll also help share those learnings across the wider engineering organisation.\nThis role will be a 1 year cover assignment working with the Enhanced Search team, before moving on to lead another of the ScriptRunner engineering teams.\nWhat you'll be doing\nLead a strong, healthy team\nManage, support, and develop a team of five software engineers\nCoach individuals in their growth, development, and career progression\nCreate an environment where engineers can do high-quality work and continue to grow\nHire and onboard new team members when needed\nAct as the escalation point for challenges within the team\nDrive delivery and technical direction\nWork with Product Management to set quarterly objectives and deliver against the roadmap\nLead delivery planning, team ceremonies, and day-to-day execution\nUnblock the team and escalate issues where needed\nUse your technical background to guide architecture, delivery, and engineering decisions\nOwn the quality, security, compliance, and cost of the product in production\nShape ways of working\nRun retrospectives and turn insights into meaningful improvements\nUse team metrics to improve delivery and effectiveness\nEnsure development processes meet legal and compliance standards\nLead the team’s use of AI tools and modern development workflows\nCollaborate across the business\nPartner with Product Managers, senior leadership, and other engineering leaders to align priorities and plans\nShare ideas and practices with other Team Leads and Engineering Managers\nWork with Atlassian and other partners on technical issues when needed\nHelp shape the wider engineering culture and direction across Adaptavist’s product organisation\n What we're looking for\nA strong technical background and proficiency in at least one major programming language such as Java, TypeScript, or Python\nExperience leading or managing a software engineering team, including coaching and developing engineers\nExperience using AI coding tools as part of a team’s development process\nExperience running agile delivery in Scrum, Kanban, or similar environments\nExperience building and operating services on AWS or similar cloud platforms, with delivery through CI/CD\nA solid understanding of distributed systems and REST APIs\nThe ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders\nA few nice to haves\nExperience in the Atlassian ecosystem, especially building apps for Jira Cloud\nExperience with serverless architecture\nFamiliarity with observability tooling for logs, metrics, and tracing\nExperience supporting enterprise customers\n Not ticking every box?
