As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space- delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.\nPhysical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) support the effective and timely development and operation of national security systems through scientific research and the application of advanced technologies. PSL has more than 150 specialized laboratories used to test, analyze, and troubleshoot virtually every aspect of rocket and satellite system design, development, construction, deployment, and operation. The expertise of the laboratories’ technical staff allows PSL to stay abreast of new technological developments and program support issues associated with rapidly evolving space systems.\nThe Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD) is part of PSL with specialized laboratories for testing, accelerating, and analyzing, failures in electronics used for space system. MTD is comprised of two sections: one that performs radiation effects testing and discrete microelectronics testing, while the other section performs failure analysis on microelectronics using tools that can identify anomalies from the macroscopic down to the atomic scale. MTD is looking a Microelectronics Device Scientist (Sr. MTS - Microelectronics/Semiconductor Engineering) to support the investigation of radiation effects, reliability- and radiation-hardness-by-design,and physics of failure of advanced CMOS, SiGe, SOI, III-V, II-VI, GaN, GaAs, MoS2 and other transition metal dichalcogenides, and other advanced technology for space applications.\nHighlights of our lab's capabilities can be seen here: Virtual Tour\nThe selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\nProvide technical support to national security space programs, internal, and academic collaborators \nConduct innovative basic and applied research on microelectronic device technologies and applications to space systems, including reliability and radiation hardness.\nPresent results of assessments/research internally, to customers, at scientific meetings, and publish research in refereed scientific journals. \nSupport the adoption and assessment of new technologies and applications, space systems, including reliability and radiation hardness.\nPerform radiation testing on microelectronic and optoelectronic components using gamma-rays, x-rays, neutrons, energetic protons, and energetic heavy ions.\nDuties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed \nTraining and mentorship will be provided \nWhat You Need to be Successful\nMinimum Requirements:\nPh.D. degree from an accredited college/university program in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months) \n0-1 year of industry work experience \nCoursework related to semiconductor physics\nKnowledge of microelectronic and/or optoelectronic device physics, such as Silicon CMOS, III-V materials, 2D semiconductors or other low-dimensional materials, topological devices, Tunnel-FETs, Ga₂O₃ and diamond, ReRAM, MRAM, FeRAM, PCM, FeFETs, or other semiconductor device systems.\nExperience in testing semiconductor devices\nExperience with Python / Labview / Matlab or similar software for data analysis and collection.\n Willing to travel domestically up to 10% of the year to customer site/radiation test facility/conferences\nThis position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. \nTranscripts\nHow You Can Stand Out\nIt would be impressive if you have one or more of these:\nStrong publication record and demonstrated ability to develop and execute innovative research projects especially those related to microelectronics. \nExperience designing advanced test structure using layout tools such as Cadence Virtuoso or L-Edit IC\nExperience with radiation hardness-by-design and reliability-by-design test chip development\nKnowledge of radiation environments and the effects of TID and SEE in microelectronics.\nExperience in microelectronics reliability, RF testing and or radiation testing\nExperience with GaN, GaAS, SiGe or related RF/5G semiconductor technology\nExperience with modeling / simulation of radiation effects or radiation transport using TCAD tools, MCNP, SRIM, GEANT4, or CRÈME96\nExperience with VHDL/Verilog/FPGA/Microprocessor programming\nWe offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.\n(Min - Max)\n$120,000.00 - $140,000.00Pay Basis: AnnualLeadership Competencies\nOur leadership philosophy is simple: every employee, regardless of level and role, can demonstrate leadership.
