The Atlantic is an influential American magazine and digital publication based in Washington, D.C., renowned for its in-depth commentary, long-form journalism, and cultural analysis. Founded in 1857 in Boston by leading literary figures including Ralph Waldo Emerson and James Russell Lowell, it has a rich history of covering critical social issues, political ideas, and foreign affairs. Today, as part of Emerson Collective, it serves as a premier platform for intellectual debate, featuring prominent writers and thinkers across politics, science, technology, and the arts.

The Atlantic is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and hands-on marketer to join the Consumer Strategy and Growth team in New York. In this role, you will help drive subscriber acquisition by ideating and executing tests on the website, building onsite experiences for specific subscription products, and supporting growth levers including partnerships with aligned brands, international expansion efforts, paywall strategy, pricing and more

This role is highly cross-functional. You will partner closely with teams across CSG and Product, including the Creative and Data teams, as well as colleagues in Engineering and Editorial.

The ideal candidate brings a mix of executional rigor, analytical thinking, technical savvy, and curiosity. You are organized, comfortable working across multiple projects at once, and motivated by testing, learning, and improving how readers move toward subscription.

This role is based in New York and reports to the Associate Director focused on growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Execute A/B tests across offers (trials, same day starts, new products), gating and meter strategy, landing pages, messaging, and design to improve baseline conversion performance onsite, including on paywalls, nudges, and product selection pages.

  • In partnership with the associate director, maintain an experimentation roadmap.

  • Support the strategy and execution of key growth initiatives across The Atlantic’s site and app (new product launches like trial lengths, games growth strategy and more) including day-to-day cross-functional coordination and project management.

  • Help launch and optimize subscription partnerships and international growth efforts, including offer setup, onsite testing, and performance tracking.

  • Build and maintain onsite tests in a testing tool, including customer journeys using HTML/CSS components.

  • Contribute to internal QA processes and experimentation standards that support a reliable and effective testing roadmap.

  • Maintain and improve documentation, experimentation records, and Airtable systems so onsite marketing work is organized and accessible.

  • Analyze test performance and translate results into clear, actionable recommendations and insights for future testing iterations.

Qualifications

  • Passion for the future of high-quality, independent journalism.

  • 2+ years experience in growth marketing, product marketing, or a related field, ideally with exposure to experimentation, conversion, or subscription growth.

  • Ability to interpret test results, identify patterns in performance data, and recommend next steps based on findings.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage several workstreams at once.

  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style.

  • Comfort working in fast-moving environments and approaching problems with curiosity, initiative, and creativity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with subscription or paywall-based products, and ideally some familiarity with marketing tech platforms in that space such as Zephr.

  • Familiarity with analytics and reporting tools such as Looker or Google Analytics.

  • Familiarity with project management best practices and documentation tools such as Airtable, JIRA, and Confluence.

  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS or eagerness to learn

  • Strong technical fluency and comfort working in platforms, systems, and tools that support testing, reporting, and onsite execution.

  • Resourceful and self-directed, with the ability to troubleshoot issues, learn new systems quickly, and figure things out independently.

  • Open to experimenting with new technologies and workflows, including AI tools such as Claude, Codex, or Glean, to improve efficiency, analysis, and execution.

Salary minimum; $77,000; Salary maximum: $85,000
