As a Research Associate, you will participate in project teams with senior consulting staff, working alongside internationally recognized experts in financial and regulatory economics, corporate finance, energy, and competition. You will have an opportunity to support our Principals, Academic Advisors, and Outside Experts as they serve as expert witnesses before courts and arbitration panels on behalf of law firms, corporations, and government agencies in the US, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and elsewhere.\nResearch Associates Interns at Brattle are experienced professionals who bring valuable expertise and education to our team. This role is ideal for those who have advanced beyond the Research Analyst level and are continuing to grow their skills as they prepare for the Associate role.\nMajor Responsibilities:\nData Management and Quality \nUnderstand, perform, and supervise statistical/econometric analyses\nUse state of the art tools most suited to problem at hand\nHelp Associate(s) spot conceptual flaws in other parts of the project analysis\nDefine RA tasks, help RAs start their work and keep them on schedule\nGive timely feedback, positive and constructive, to RAs when appropriate\nAssess whether model is conceptually doing what is needed for the project and translate institutional knowledge into realistic but tractable model\nProduce documents/spreadsheets that are professionally formatted/edited and free of errors\nSupport modeling tasks as needed\nUnderstand and solve complex calculations and/or data transformations\nBe able to reverse engineer and/or replicate opponent's analysis for evaluation and criticism\nCreate compelling graphics/tables/charts to support the relevant arguments (without associate guidance)\nManage documents in a manner that is transparent to others outside of the project team\nRegularly offer creative solutions to project and other problems\nEnsure both technical and conceptual quality in all work\nRegularly contribute to the conceptual foundation of projects\nPerform interchangeably with junior level associates in the majority of situations\nResearch and Project Participation \nDevelop institutional expertise in a particular area of Brattle work and have an expertise regarding several information sources (knowing where to get industry information) - is viewed as the go to person for at least one area\nRegularly be responsible for multiple tasks simultaneously\nDevelop awareness of impact of work on deadlines and be able to flex as appropriate to ensure compliance with little guidance\nDraft several aspects of final report: client memos, proposals, presentations, etc.\nIndependently determine the data or information research needs based on the end results desired by the associate or principals\nProvide insightful analysis, rather than descriptive summaries, for written work products\nSee connections and applications from one project to others and can articulately explain to others\nRegularly contribute to firm initiatives, e.g. recruiting, training, and business development\nDevelop a leadership “presence” and regularly take a “front seat” role on projects\nTeach technical and project management skills to other RAs either through tutoring, training or Brown Bags\nFormally and informally mentor junior staff members\nThe ideal candidate will possess:\nMaster’s degree in a quantitative discipline along with 3 - 4 years of experience in economic consulting or industry, preferably in the competition and antitrust space\nOur project work is done almost exclusively on teams, so it’s critical that our Research Associate’s work well with others\nIntellectual curiosity and creativity as we are looking for candidates who consistently want to learn more and approach problems with creativity\nA high degree of ownership and commitment.
