Description

The Maintenance Mechanics maintains the safe operation and maintenance of building facilities, electrical, and mechanical systems and plumbing. The department is experienced Maintenance Mechanics for the shifts un-Tue, Fri-Sat (off Wed-Thu) 4:00pm-12:30am

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all responsibilities of the Maintenance Mechanic II role:
    • Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, schematics and written technical documents of general machineries to locate area of trouble and complete repairs accurately.
    • Repairs and adjusts doors, windows, closures, panic devices and locks.
    • Patches holes, installs escutcheons, repairs ceiling and floor tile as needed to maintain building appearance.
    • Makes minor masonry and wood repairs.
    • Installs pictures, coat hooks, other wall hung furnishings, and equipment as requested.
    • Responsible for operating and maintaining specific equipment, conducting surveys and inventories, performing preventive maintenance activities, responding to customer complaints, and repairing equipment.
    • May perform daily chemical tests on water systems and adjust chemical mixtures and feed rates.
    • Is responsible for conducting surveys and inventories of buildings and equipment.
    • Enters data into computer systems and databases.
    • Maintains records and files; interprets applicable regulations and filing and auditing policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Practices all applicable safety regulations and uses personal protective equipment as required.
    • Responds to customer requests and complaints in a timely and appropriate manner; identifies and records need or problem and determines best approach to resolve situation following departmental guidelines.
  • In addition to Mechanic II responsibilities, participates in the onboarding and training of all staff.
  • Provides guidance to staff to ensure work orders are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assigns and schedules work.
  • Operates and maintains building facilities, systems and equipment related to plumbing, electricity, HVAC, and steam control.
  • Operates and maintains building equipment and systems such as vacuum systems, control air systems, building air systems, emergency generators, electrical distribution systems, liquid pumping systems, steam, air handling systems, hot/cold water systems and natural gas and fuel oil systems.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma and three years of experience in building maintenance, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, and general carpentry.
  • Working knowledge of computer or mobile applications.
  • Ability to conduct hands-on training for others.
  • Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • Some positions within this classification may require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, twist, climb a ladder, and walk for distances up to one mile.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
