Your role at Clorox:

In this role, you will lead product and process development for next-generation litter materials, helping to develop the future of Fresh Step and the broader litter category.

This role requires out-of-the-box thinking, strong technical problem solving, and close partnership with cross-functional teams, external partners, and manufacturing to develop consumer-relevant solutions that can be scaled.

It is a great opportunity to build innovation experience while shaping the next generation of cat litter products.

This position will be located in our Pleasanton, CA office, and the individual will be expected to be in the office 3 days a week.

In this role, you will:

Future of Litter Product and Process Innovation

• Lead product and process development for Project Horizon, a breakthrough innovation effort focused on reimagining how litter is made and what the next generation of Fresh Step products can be
• Apply strategic thinking to evaluate raw materials, processing approaches, product performance, manufacturability, cost, and scalability, building a clear business case to support technical recommendations and project decisions
• Design and execute technical testing to converge on and validate product and process design and performance
• Translate consumer, brand, and business needs into technical design criteria for new litter particle and substrate development

Brand Maintenance, Cost Savings, and Consumer Superiority

• Own and execute projects to drive the litter business in its journey to growing and winning with consumers
• Partner with Marketing, Human Insights, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and external partners to ensure product and process solutions meet consumer, operational, and business needs
• Use consumer-relevant testing and data-based recommendations to support product superiority, cost savings, quality improvements, and brand growth

Capabilities Development and Technical Improvements

• Demonstrate a mentality of constant improvement and willingness to challenge past ways of working to drive efficiency in your work and presenting means of improving the work of the broader technical team
• Establish and maintain strong technical organization through knowledge management and documentation
• Build reusable technical knowledge around materials, processing conditions, particle design, and performance drivers to support future innovation
• Contribute to a robust intellectual property portfolio and strategy

What we look for:

Years and Type of Experience:

• 2+ years as a product or process developer in consumer product goods companies or applicable field
• Experience developing products or processes from early-stage concept through technical validation, scale-up, or commercialization

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to work independently and implement projects in a timely manner
• Ability to work through ambiguity and develop structured learning plans for undefined technical challenges
• Strong experimental design, data analysis, and technical problem-solving skills
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment, both internal and external to Clorox
• Ability to co-develop with external suppliers and partners

Education Level/Degree:

• Bachelors or Masters in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or time in applicable role(s) after college

We use broad salary ranges that reflect the competitive market for similar jobs, provide sufficient opportunity for growth as you gain experience and expand responsibilities, while also allowing for differentiation based on performance. Based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at Clorox in the first half of the applicable range. Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.

-Zone A: $90,900 - $170,100

-Zone B: $83,400 - $155,900

-Zone C: $75,800 - $141,700

This job is also eligible for participation in Clorox’s incentive plans, subject to the terms of the applicable plan documents and policies.
