As a critical point of contact for the maintenance department, the Duty Engineer balances scheduled preventative work against urgent guest requests and maintains a safe, comfortable, and reliable environment for guests and colleagues onsite.\nJOB DESCRIPTION:\nMaintenance and Repair\nPerform general maintenance, preventative maintenance, inspections, and emergency repairs as assigned.\n\nTroubleshoot and repair electrical and plumbing systems at an intermediate level, including drain line clearing.\n\nOperate and repair hotel equipment using strong mechanical skills, and perform a variety of general maintenance repairs.\n\nApply basic carpentry skills as required.\n\nSafety and Security\nAdhere to safety, security, and emergency procedures; respond appropriately during emergencies; and act promptly to correct hazards.\n\nFollow security procedures for guest room and master keys, secure boiler, electrical, and other engineering areas, and store all chemicals properly.\n\nGuest and Operational Service\nListen to and promptly resolve guest problems and complaints with a strong emphasis on service recovery.\n\nCommunicate effectively with departments including Housekeeping and Stewarding toward shared operational goals.\n\nKeep the Chief Engineer and/or Assistant Director of Engineering fully and promptly informed of any significant or unusual matter so corrective action can be taken.\n\nRecords and Housekeeping\nMaintain accurate records of scheduled and unscheduled repairs.\n\nOperate HotSOS, the work order system, including detailed notes and current ticket status.\n\nClean and organize the engineering shop and workspaces.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.\n\nMinimum two years of maintenance experience.\n\nTechnical Skills\nOperation of hand and power tools, including drills, saws, drain cleaners, pressure washing equipment, and a range of meters and testers.\n\nAbility to read manufacturer instructions, blueprints, and diagnostic trees, and to distinguish among colored electrical conductors.\n\nOperation of software that controls HVAC systems and monitors the central plant.\n\nOperation of a computerized work order or maintenance management system.\n\nJudgment and Communication\nSound judgment across general repair and maintenance decisions, with the ability to resolve guest and operational problems effectively.\n\nPersistence in working through obstacles to complete assigned and necessary tasks.\n\nClear, effective communication with colleagues, guests, and other departments.\n\nPHYSICAL CAPABILITIES\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this role.\nOccasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 50 pounds unassisted; items above 50 pounds and up to 75 pounds are handled with mechanical aids or a team lift.\n\nFrequently stand, walk, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms; frequently use hands to finger, handle, and feel.\n\nRemain on feet for extended periods, particularly during peak hours and events.\n\nAbility to read gauges, labels, instructions, blueprints, and reports, with or without correction.\n\nAbility to receive and respond to radio communication, verbal instruction, and audible alarms, with or without accommodation.\n\nAbility to make effective decisions and manage conflict under time pressure.\n\nReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.\n_______________________________________________________________________________\nBHC is an equal employment opportunity employer.
