JOB PURPOSE:
The Pelvic Floor Care Navigator (PFN) assists within UROGYN Division in research, community outreach, and clinical care activities. PFN is responsible to promote high quality of research & care for women with pelvic floor disorders at Howard University (HU) and Howard University Hospital (HUH), coordinate research & clinical care within UROGYN Division. This position will provide administrative support for Division of Urogynecology operations. This position reports to Urogynecology Chief.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
This position reports to the Chief of Urogynecology and coordinates with other members of the research team. This position has no formal supervisory authority or authority for the direction of others.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position supports research & clinical care within the Division of Urogynecology, OBGYN Department and Howard University/Howard University Hospital. This position may interact with a variety of participants, clinicians, staff and faculty. They may also interact with research partners, advisory board participants, and other stakeholders. External contacts include a variety of third party payers, medical organizations, patients, other healthcare personnel, and research staff.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Research:
· Recruit, screen, and consent study participants in accordance with approved protocols
· Schedule and coordinate study sessions, assessments, and follow-up visits
· Communicate regularly with site clinicians and research partners to monitor study progress and troubleshoot challenges
· Use designated software to support study operations, data management, tracking, and reporting
· Assist with authorizations for study related treatments and care.
· Assist participants to navigate through HU and HUH systems.
· Protects private health information and safeguards Belmont three fundamental ethical principles for research.
Community Outreach:
· Lead monthly outreach events to increase UROGYN HU and HUH community outreach and increase research participation and awareness regarding pelvic floor disorders & UROGYN services at HU/HUH
· Collaborate with FPP community outreach team
· Work with HUH and HUH marketing team to improve social media presence
· Serve as a visible ambassador for Howard University’s Urogynecology program
· Develop and strengthen relationships with community members, organizations, and partners throughout the DMV community.
· Proactively identify, research, and attend relevant community events and opportunities where women’s health and urogynecology services can be promoted.
· Develop and implement community outreach activities focused on women’s pelvic health,
· Educate community members about the availability of urogynecology services at Howard University, including the types of conditions treated, services offered, and how to access care.
· Establish, cultivate, and maintain strong working relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, faith-based organizations, advocacy groups, women’s organizations, senior centers, and other community partners.
· Follow up with individuals who express interest in care to help ensure that they successfully transition from community outreach to a scheduled and attended clinic appointment.
· Track outreach activities, community contacts, referrals, appointments, and other engagement metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts.
· Gather feedback from community members and partners to inform future outreach efforts and improve patient experience.
· Collaborate with the Howard University Marketing and Communications team to develop and maintain outreach materials, including flyers, brochures, educational handouts, promotional materials, and other resources for distribution at community events.
· Promote Howard University’s presence at community events through social media highlighting community partnerships and to expand awareness of women’s health and urogynecology services available at Howard University.
Clinical Care:
· Prepare patients for medical appointments including obtaining and recording patients’ vital signs.
· Prepare instruments and equipment for examinations and/or office procedures.
· Assist UROGYN provider with examinations and office procedures.
· Clean and dress wounds, remove sutures as requested by a provider.
· Observe patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
· Collect samples, taken by physician for testing, and deliver them to the laboratory.
· Clean, disinfects, and sterilizes materials, instruments, equipment, rooms and supplies.
· Perform inventories and places requisitions for supplies.
· Review patient charts for instructions regarding prescriptions, tests, follow-up appointments and/or patient testing procedures.
· Schedule patients for follow-up and office procedures. Works with the front desk or surgical scheduler to coordinate schedule.
· Obtain authorization for medications and tests etc.
· Assist in locating and filing records.
· Maintain knowledge of and complies with established policies and procedures.
· Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner.
· Provide patient education and instruction as directed by the provider, including bladder diaries, self-catheter care, bladder instillations, and others.
· Perform voiding trials, foley catheter care, straight catheterization, urinalysis.
· Assist with pessary care and specialized procedures (Urodynamics, Ultrasound, cystoscopy, anal manometry, pelvic physical therapy and others).
· Maintain inventory of pessaries.
· Approve, orders, and assists in Botox procedures.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Spanish fluency required; Medical Spanish Translator Certification is required.
Licensed Practical Nurse preferred, not required. Associate degree in Medical Technology, Nursing or related field or minimum of seven (7) years related experience in a physician’s office, clinic and/or hospital, research or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification or registration as a Medical Technology or completion of a Medical Assistant program is required.
