Join our team as we help shape the future.\nJob Summary\nThe Sr Staff Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for design ing, building, securing, and modernizing the technology environments that support reliable, scalable, and efficient enterprise operations. They apply expertise across cloud, hybrid, and on -prem\ninfrastructure, automation, infrastructure as code, resiliency, observability, and operational excelle nce to improve platform performance, reduce risk, and enable faster, more consistent delivery. They partner across engineerin g, security,\narchitecture, operations, and business teams to ensure infrastructure services are stable, cost -aware, compliant, and aligned to evolving business and technology needs.\nSpan and Responsibility\nOwns the technical direction, design integrity,\nand operational outcomes for highly complex\ninfrastructure capabilities that span multiple\nplatforms, services, teams, or technology\ndomains, while operating as a senior individual\ncontributor with no direct reports.\nLeads cross -functional virtual squads or\ntechnical workstreams across Infrastructure,\nSecurity, and Architecture, to deliver\nenterprise -critical outcomes.\nServes as a recognized subject matter expert\nacross one or more infrastructure domains,\nshaping platform direction, engineering\nstandards, reusable patterns, and operating\npractices beyond a single team.\nDefines, designs, and advances scalable\ninfrastructure platforms, shared services,\nautomation frameworks, observability,\nresiliency patterns, integrations, and\noperational controls across hybrid\non-premises and cloud environments.\nOwns design choices for AI -enabled , AIOps, or\nagentic infrastructure capabilities when\nrequirements are broad, standards are\nevolving, or cross -domain trade -offs are\nrequired.\nModernizes infrastructure services,\nautomation, configurations, runbooks,\ndeployment patterns, and operational\nworkflows to improve scalability, resiliency,\nsecurity, performance, cost efficiency, and\nlong -term supportability.\nEstablishes reusable playbooks, automation\npatterns, validation practices, and\ndocumentation standards that enable other\nengineers and teams to execute consistently\nand safely.\nTechnical Qualifications\n8-10 years of applicable software engineering\nexperience.\nExpert proficiency in one or more modern\nprogramming languages (Java, C#/.NET,\nPython, JavaScript/TypeScript).\nStrong full -stack expertise (front end\nframeworks, APIs, back -end services).\nDeep experience with automated testing,\nCI/CD, and AIOps practices.\nStrong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS,\nAzure, GCP), containers, and distributed\nsystems.\nAdvanced understanding of secure coding,\nvulnerability remediation, and data\nprotection.\nProven experience with agentic AI\narchitectures, LLM prompting, and human -AI\ninteraction design.\nHands -on use of AI-assisted development\ntools to improve engineering productivity.\nStrong awareness of AI -driven security risks\nand responsible AI practices.\nThis role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.\nCompensation\nThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
