You will be accountable for the delivery of these products, turning platform strategy into a roadmap, guiding your engineers through design, build, and release, and making sure every user, technical or not, can go from idea to running application with the least friction possible. Your teams will deliver experiences that meet users where they are, from simple guided deployment to command-line tooling and AI-assisted guidance, and that accelerate rapid prototyping and an AI-driven product development lifecycle.\nYou will partner closely with Platform Reliability Engineering to build support, observability, and reliability into these products from the start, so they are ready for production, on-call, and scale. You will also grow the next generation of engineering talent and build a strong platform-engineering culture.\nKey Responsibilities\n30% Delivery & Execution\nOwns delivery of cloud platform products supporting agentic workloads, from roadmap and design through release and ongoing operation \nCollaborates with product management, UX, architecture, and consuming teams (both engineering and non-engineering) to create secure, reliable, scalable platform capabilities \nPartners with Platform Reliability Engineering to define SLOs, observability, alerting, runbooks, and on-call readiness for every product before and after launch \nEnsures quality, security, and change control standards are met; documents and reviews designs and releases \nGuides the design and build of services on Google Cloud and GKE, using infrastructure as code and CI/CD to deliver in small, safe increments \nDrives adoption of both platforms through clear documentation, self-service workflows, and guardrails tailored to each audience: paved paths for engineers and simple, governed experiences for non-technical users \nEstablishes security, governance, and cost guardrails that let non-engineering teams build and run workloads on the platform safely \nWrites code or scripts as needed to automate infrastructure, monitoring, and testing; participates in design and code reviews \nParticipates in and leads review board sessions to drive consistency across the enterprise \n10% Support & Enablement\nFields questions from engineers, product teams, and support teams consuming the platform \nServes as a technical escalation point for the team and participates in incident response and post-incident reviews \nMonitors adoption and feedback channels and turns them into product improvements \nProvides application support for software running in production \n50% People\nProvides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to Software Engineers \nAttracts, retains, and develops top talent to build a world class Software Engineering Team \nConducts annual and mid-year reviews by reviewing individual development plans and team feedback \nManages team capacity, priorities, and workload across multiple products \nFosters collaboration with team members to drive consistency across product teams, and finds opportunities to expose engineers to career interests \nActs as a proponent of modern software development practices, including applying AI-assisted development to how the team works \nParticipates in and contributes to communities of practice around modern software design and development \n10% Learning\nLearns, through reading, tutorials, and hands-on experimentation, new technologies and best practices in cloud platforms, agentic AI, and platform engineering \nBuilds relationships with technology leaders at other companies to learn best practices and elegant solutions to common problems \n\nDirect Manager / Direct Reports\n2-5\nTravel Requirements\nTypically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.\nPhysical Requirements\nMost of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.\nMinimum Qualifications\nMust be eighteen years of age or older \nMust be legally permitted to work in the United States \nMastery of an object oriented programming language (preferably Go) \nProficiency with Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes (GKE) in a production environment \nPreferred Qualifications\n5-7 years of relevant work experience, including experience leading or managing engineers \nLeadership experience and a strong technology mindset \nMastery of Golang for building cloud-native services, APIs, and tooling \nMastery of Google Cloud (e.g., GKE, IAM, networking, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage) and container orchestration with Kubernetes \nMastery of infrastructure as code and GitOps practices (e.g., Terraform, Helm, Argo CD) \nMastery of modern CI/CD and progressive delivery pipelines \nExperience building platforms or products that enable agentic and AI workloads, such as LLM gateways, agent runtimes, tool and MCP integration, model serving, or AI orchestration on cloud infrastructure \nExperience designing platforms, APIs, and self-service workflows with excellent documentation and user experience, including for non-technical users \nProficient in observability practices: metrics, logging, tracing, SLOs, and alerting (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) \nProficient in production support, incident management, and building reliability into products in partnership with SRE or reliability engineering teams \nProficient in security fundamentals for cloud platforms, including identity, secrets management, and network policy \nProficient in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques \nCapable of understanding complicated systems quickly \nExperience in guiding more junior team members through Software Engineering fundamentals in a professional setting \nExperience managing and growing team members in a professional setting \nExperience balancing workloads across teams and managing multiple products \nExperience with translating high level strategy to tactical execution \nAI driven thinking, including applying AI and agentic workflows to accelerate engineering \nProficiency in supporting a 24x7 retail operation \nEducation\nMinimum: the knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
