These roles are critical to enabling our growing development teams to deliver features faster whilst maintaining the quality standards our readers expect.\nAs a Test Automation Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for our web applications and mobile apps. You'll work collaboratively with developers, QA, and product teams to establish automation frameworks and practices that scale with our growing engineering organisation.\nKey Responsibilities\nTest Automation Development\nDesign, develop, and maintain automated test suites for web applications and mobile apps (iOS/Android) \nWrite clear, maintainable, and efficient test code following software engineering best practices \nImplement end-to-end, integration, and regression tests across our publishing platform \nBuild reusable test components and frameworks to accelerate automation coverage \nDebug and troubleshoot test failures, distinguishing product issues from test infrastructure problems \nCI/CD Integration\nIntegrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous feedback \nConfigure test execution environments and manage test data \nMonitor test execution and maintain test suite health \nOptimise test execution time and reliability \nIntegrate Reporting and Monitoring tools.\nCollaboration & Quality\nWork closely with developers to understand features and identify automation opportunities \nCollaborate with QA team to prioritise automation backlog based on business impact \nParticipate in code reviews for both production and test code \nContribute to defining and improving testing standards and practices \nDocument automation frameworks, patterns, and processes \nContinuous Improvement\nIdentify areas where automation can improve velocity and quality \nEvaluate and recommend testing tools and technologies \nRefactor and maintain existing test suites to prevent technical debt \nShare knowledge and mentor team members on automation practices \nRequirements & Experience\nCore Technical Skills\nStrong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript required, with demonstrable experience in modern frameworks and tools.\nExperience with additional languages (Python, Java, C#).\n2-4 years experience with test automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress (web), Appium, Detox, XCUITest, BrowserStack, or REST Assured, Postman (API) \nExperience working with Test Management and Agile Methodologies.\nSolid experience with Git and collaborative development workflows \nHands-on experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure Pipeline, or similar) \nStrong understanding of testing principles, test design patterns, and best practices \nProfessional Experience\n2-4 years in software testing with focus on test automation \nProven track record of building and maintaining automated test suites in production environments \nExperience working in agile development teams \nDemonstrable ability to write clean, maintainable code \nPersonal Attributes\nStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities \nGood communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences \nCollaborative mindset - comfortable working across development, QA, and product teams \nSelf-motivated with ability to work independently and prioritise effectively \nAttention to detail whilst maintaining focus on business impact \nDesirable Requirements\nExperience with multiple testing frameworks and ability to evaluate trade-offs \nKnowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling, k6) \nFamiliarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) \nKnowledge of database testing and SQL \nExperience in digital media, publishing, or content management systems is nice to have \nUnderstanding of web performance optimisation and SEO considerations \nMobile app testing experience across iOS and Android platforms \nApplication Process\nPlease apply with your CV through the Apply button below.\nThe Irish Times Group operates a Hybrid working policy and is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
