The successful candidate will provide technical design and support for sophisticated HVAC, steam, and chilled water plant operations as well as leading energy efficiency projects supporting nearly 2M ft2 of complex biomedical research laboratory and vivaria space across five domestic US sites.\nKey Responsibilities & Essential Functions\nMechanical Engineering Expertise:\nDesigns HVAC, hydronics, steam, chilled water, process gases, and lab/vivaria ventilation and control systems.\nDevelops feasibility studies and implements projects for energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction\nPerforms system modeling and commissioning oversight\nSupports vivarium and BSL1 & 2 rated laboratory environments with specialized mechanical systems.\nDevelops and maintains construction design standards within mechanical engineering discipline for all Jackson Laboratory locations, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and standards.\nProject Management Leadership:\no Leads major tenant improvements, relocations, infrastructure upgrades, and new construction driving scope, schedule, and execution from initiation through closeout.\no Develops and manages project budgets leading bidding, vendor selection, and contract negotiations. Tracks costs, manages forecasts, and identifies cost saving opportunities. Procures, directs, oversees, reviews, and approves the work of external engineering design and planning consultants, providing expert insights and mentorship to the team.\no Acts as primary contact for internal stakeholders and external partners. Provides clear and regular communication on project status, risks, and required decisions holding vendors accountable for delivery and performance.\nRegulatory Compliance and Standards Adherence:\no Ensure strict adherence to all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards, including IBC, NFPA, and OSHA, while overseeing the planning and execution of projects.\nFacilities Management Support:\no Trains and mentors lower-level mechanical engineering staff, ensuring the effective growth and development of project teams.\no Provides specialized support in Facilities Management, offering guidance on effective maintenance strategies and equipment lifecycle management.\no Collaborate with Facilities Operations and Maintenance teams to optimize facility performance.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.\nMore than 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and project management, with a solid understanding of the specific requirements for critical infrastructure environments\nStrong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders both orally and in writing.\nProficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit, MS Office Suite, MS Project, Trimble Construct (formerly e-Builder), or similar software applications.\nDemonstrated organizational, analytical, project management, and time management skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities effectively.\nDemonstrate expertise in a wide range of facility equipment and systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, central utility plant, building automation & controls, and other critical infrastructure components.\nPay Range: $106,020 - $153,729\nAbout JAX:\nThe Jackson Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution with a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center and nearly 3,000 employees in locations across the United States (Maine, Connecticut, California), Japan and China.
