Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is a nonprofit, four-year MD program that will enhance traditional medical education with the arts, humanities, and whole health principles. The school’s culture embraces self-care to empower students to care for their own well-being as well as their patients’. The school’s state-of-the-art medical education facility is located in Bentonville, Arkansas on the Crystal Bridges campus, home to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Heartland Whole Health Institute. The school has been granted preliminary accreditation status by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.\nAbout The Position\nThe Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Physiology (neuroscience emphasis) faculty will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure students receive broad-based training experiences. Foundational sciences elements will be interwoven throughout all four years, and innovative approaches to teaching will be encouraged. \nPhysiology educators with expertise in more than one of the following medical disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply: \nNeurobiology \nPhysiology\nAnatomy/Neuroanatomy • Pathology\nHistology\nEmbryology\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nDevelop Curriculum.\nOversee the development and integration of all content tied to their discipline, including the development of patient narratives and various assessment tools including, but not limited to, NBME-style multiple-choice questions and assessment of student performance in active learning sessions.\nEvaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement.\nParticipate in ongoing curriculum evaluation and continuous quality improvement by reviewing student performance, learner feedback, course evaluation findings, curriculum mapping data, and other relevant outcomes and implementing documented improvements as appropriate.\nTeach.\nRoutinely engage in student instruction by developing and delivering content using active learning\nmethodologies. Collaborate with faculty colleagues to create integrated pre-session materials and deliver flipped classroom sessions. Facilitate small and large group active learning.\nEvaluate Students.\nCreate learning objectives related to respective foundational sciences and map them\nto the curriculum and national content guides. Use appropriate metrics and assessment methods to ensure that students meet the specified objectives.\nServe.\nParticipate actively in institutional service, including membership on departmental, school, and/or institutional committees (e.g., Curriculum Committee, Admissions Committee).\nGrow Professionally.\nParticipate in professional development programs to enhance teaching, educational and other skills needed to execute their responsibilities.\nOther.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\n\nQualifications and Requirements\nDoctoral degree, such as a PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent terminal degree, in neuroscience, physiology, neurobiology, or a closely related discipline, required.\n> 2 years of experience in undergraduate medical education in LCME or COCA accredited medical school, required.\nExpertise in neuroscience and neuroanatomy, required.\nProven scholarly work and accomplishments, required.\nDemonstrated experience in medical education, including curriculum development, required.\nAbility to apply adult learning theory, required.\nExperience designing, delivering, and evaluating integrated foundational science courses, preferred. • Comfort with an array of educational technologies and active learning methodologies, preferred.\nPhysical Demands and Work Environment\nThe physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those required by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
