Experience working in remote project environments and a strong understanding of equipment, materials, and construction cost drivers are assets.\nWhy Join Sutherland Heavy Civil?\nMeaningful work on civil construction, mining, and infrastructure projects \nCompetitive pay, comprehensive rewards and benefits \nQuality equipment, resources, and support to help you perform at your best \nOpportunities to build a long-term career, not just a job \nA team-first culture built on safety, respect, and accountability \nLocal roots and proud supporters of the communities where we live and work \nCompensation & Schedule\n$120,000 - $160,000 per year (negotiable) plus bonus\nCompensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and overall alignment with the requirements of the role.\nAllowances: Eligible for cellphone allowance\nResponsibilities\nLead, mentor, and develop the estimating team while ensuring the delivery of accurate, competitive, and timely bid submissions. \nOversee the preparation and review of estimates for heavy civil, mining, forestry, infrastructure, environmental, industrial, and resource-sector projects. \nReview drawings, specifications, contract documents, schedules, and technical reports to develop comprehensive project cost estimates. \nLead bid strategy, pricing reviews, risk assessments, value engineering initiatives, and go/no-go decision-making processes. \nIdentify project risks, opportunities, constructability considerations, and commercial impacts while recommending mitigation strategies. \nCoordinate subcontractor and supplier pricing, evaluate proposals, and support procurement and execution planning. \nCollaborate with operations, project management, engineering, procurement, and executive leadership teams throughout the bid and project lifecycle. \nParticipate in client meetings, tender reviews, pre-bid discussions, and project handovers to support successful project execution. \nDrive continuous improvement through estimating standards, historical cost tracking, productivity benchmarking, and process optimization. \nSupport business growth by providing strategic guidance on pursuit opportunities, market intelligence, resource planning, and commercial decision-making. \nQualifications\nDiploma, degree, or equivalent experience in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Quantity Surveying, Business, or a related field. \n8+ years of progressive estimating experience and 3+ years of leadership experience within construction, mining, forestry, industrial, infrastructure, or related industries. \nProven experience preparing, reviewing, and managing large, complex bids, estimates, and tender submissions. \nStrong knowledge of cost estimating, bid strategy, risk assessment, value engineering, construction methods, productivity rates, and project execution practices. \nStrong commercial, analytical, financial, and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation. \nAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software; experience with HeavyBid, B2W, InEight, Bid2Win, HCSS, scheduling software, and proposal development is considered an asset. \nBenefits & Total Rewards\nExtended health, dental and vision \nLife and travel insurance coverages \nComprehensive wellness and paramedical support \nEmployee assistance program \nGenerous pension matching \nReferral bonus opportunities \nAbout Sutherland Heavy Civil\nSutherland Heavy Civil is a broad-based forestry services provider with a strong focus on environmentally responsible and sustainable practices.
