This role will own major autonomous features and robotic subsystems, such as localization, planning, and control. You will independently plan and conduct verification and validation activities, perform root-cause analysis, and mentor junior engineers. You will also collaborate with Perception, Embedded, and Safety teams to deliver robust robotic systems designed for reliable field performance.\nWhat Will You Do?\nIn this role, you will be responsible for:\nOwn and advance major autonomy features and robotic subsystems, including localization, planning, and control pipelines.\nDevelop and optimize SLAM solutions using 2D/3D data, LiDAR, and vision technologies, including loop closure and map optimization.\nDesign robust multisensor fusion systems using techniques such as EKF, UKF, and factor graphs.\nDevelop advanced planning and control capabilities, including model predictive control, linear quadratic regulation, trajectory tracking, and model identification.\nPlan and execute experiments and verification activities, establishing key performance indicators for accuracy, latency, reliability, and real-time performance.\nConduct failure-mode and root-cause analyses while incorporating safety concepts for autonomous operation.\nSupport system integration and bring-up on embedded computing platforms, including NVIDIA and ARM architectures.\nCollaborate with suppliers and external partners and contribute to code reviews and engineering standards.\nCoach and mentor Level I and Level II engineers.\nWhat Do You Need?\nTo be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following requirements:\nEducation and Experience\nBachelor’s degree in engineering, robotics, computer science, or a related technical field required.\nMaster’s degree preferred.\nRobotics Engineer II: 2-4 years of relevant professional experience.\nRobotics Engineer III: 4-7 years of relevant professional experience.\nRobotics Engineer IV: 7-10 years of relevant professional experience.\nRobotics Engineer V: 10-12+ years of relevant professional experience.\nTechnical Skills\nExperience with SLAM, including 2D/3D mapping, LiDAR, vision, loop closure, and map optimization.\nExperience developing multisensor fusion solutions using EKF, UKF, or factor graph methods.\nKnowledge of advanced planning and control methods, including MPC, LQR, trajectory tracking, and model identification.\nExperience conducting failure-mode analysis and applying safety concepts to autonomous systems.\nExperience with embedded computing platforms, including NVIDIA and ARM architectures.\nUnderstanding of real-time system performance and experimental design.\nAbility to define and evaluate performance metrics related to accuracy, latency, and reliability.\nExperience with code reviews, technical standards, and supplier or partner collaboration.\nLeadership and Working Style\nWorks independently within established procedures.\nResolves a broad range of technical issues.\nDemonstrates ownership of complex systems and technical outcomes.\nCollaborates effectively across Perception, Embedded, Safety, and other engineering teams.\nProvides technical coaching and mentorship to junior engineers.\nWhat Can We Give You?\nAt The Toro Company, we are always working to make sure our employees know just how valued they are. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $96,900 - $121,100. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
