As part of UT Dell Medical School's transformation into a world-class academic health enterprise, we are launching an Enterprise Human Capital Management (HCM) transformation centered on Workday, beginning in Fall 2026. To support this implementation, we are recruiting HR and technology professionals who will help design, implement, and optimize Workday. This is a unique opportunity to build the foundational HR technology platform that will support the future University of Texas Dell Medical Center and the broader academic health enterprise.

The Senior Workday Integration Engineer serves as a technical lead and subject matter expert for Workday integration development, with a focus on complex HCM and Payroll integrations across benefits, tax, timekeeping, scheduling, recruiting, and other enterprise systems. This role partners with architects, business stakeholders, implementation partners, vendors, and technical teams to design, implement, maintain, and optimize scalable Workday integration solutions through implementation, go-live, and ongoing production support.

Purpose

The Senior Workday Integration Engineer designs and develops complex HCM and Payroll system integrations between Workday and third-party enterprise applications. This role serves as a technical lead and subject matter expert in Workday integration development while implementing robust integration solutions across benefits, tax, timekeeping, scheduling, recruiting, and related enterprise systems.

The position collaborates with architects, stakeholders, vendors, and implementation partners to develop scalable solutions while establishing development standards and best practices that support Dell Medical School's Workday HCM transformation.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a technical lead for Workday integration development and provide expertise in interface design patterns and message transformation.

  • Establish development standards and best practices for Workday integration development.

  • Mentor junior developers in integration capabilities and Workday integration methodologies.

  • Provide technical guidance supporting scalable, reliable, and maintainable integration solutions.

Integration Development

  • Design and implement sophisticated integrations between Workday and third-party application systems.

  • Collaborate with architects, business stakeholders, implementation partners, and vendors to develop scalable integration solutions.

  • Develop and optimize Workday interfaces supporting HCM, Payroll, benefits, tax, timekeeping, scheduling, recruiting, and related enterprise systems.

  • Develop and support API-driven and secure file-based integrations used to exchange HR, Payroll, Benefits, and workforce data between Workday and external systems.

  • Create complex message flows and transformations.

  • Select appropriate integration patterns that maximize platform capabilities.

  • Develop integrations using Workday tools and technologies, including Workday Studio, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), XML, and Workday APIs/web services.

  • Support integration activities throughout the implementation lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, go-live, and post-production stabilization.

Maintenance and Support

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex Workday and enterprise integration issues.

  • Manage performance optimization and interface monitoring.

  • Lead root cause analysis efforts for system issues across integrated platforms.

  • Support ongoing maintenance and operational stability of Workday integrations following implementation and go-live.

  • Partner with internal teams and external vendors to resolve integration issues and support reliable data exchange.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation as required.

Quality and Documentation

  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for Workday integrations and configurations.

  • Establish testing methodologies for interface deployments.

  • Ensure thorough validation of integration components through systematic testing procedures.

  • Support end-to-end integration testing, deployment validation, and go-live readiness.

  • Support quality assurance and continuous improvement of Workday integration development practices.

Marginal or Periodic Functions

  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and continuing education and skills competency while supporting department-based goals that contribute to organizational success.

  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical Expertise

  • Knowledge of Workday integration development and enterprise integration methodologies.

  • Experience with Workday integration tools and technologies, including Workday Studio, EIB, XML, APIs/web services, and secure file-transfer methods.

  • Knowledge of enterprise integration platforms, middleware technologies, and integration patterns.

  • Proficiency with APIs, including RESTful and SOAP services, and hands-on experience designing and implementing API-driven solutions.

  • Knowledge of HCM and Payroll integration touchpoints, particularly Benefits and other HR-related vendor/system integrations.

Problem Solving

  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop effective solutions.

  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving Workday and enterprise integration issues.

  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and recommend sustainable technical solutions.

Communication

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to communicate integration requirements, designs, issues, and recommendations clearly.

Collaboration

  • Experience working effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to collaborate with architects, application teams, implementation partners, vendors, and operational partners throughout integration initiatives.

Project Management

  • Experience managing integration projects and competing technical priorities.

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies such as Agile and Scrum.

  • Ability to coordinate integration activities, monitor deliverables, and meet established project timelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of six years of experience implementing Workday integrations and supporting ERP systems, including integration development and support.

  • Active Workday Finance, HCM/Payroll, and Workday Studio certifications.

  • Experience with Workday integration tools and technologies, including Workday Studio, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), and XML.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of two years of experience supporting Workday integrations in a higher education or healthcare environment.

  • Experience supporting Workday HCM and/or Payroll implementations through design, development, testing, go-live, and post-production support.

  • Experience developing or supporting Payroll and/or Benefits integrations, including integrations with external vendors or enterprise systems.

  • Experience with Workday APIs/web services and secure file-based integrations.

  • Familiarity with data security and privacy best practices.

  • Knowledge of additional enterprise systems and platforms such as Epic and Kodiak.

  • HL7 Certification.

  • Epic Bridges or Interconnect Certification.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

  • ITIL Foundation Certification.

Licenses/Registrations/Certifications

Required

  • Active Workday Finance, HCM/Payroll, and Workday Studio certifications.

Preferred

Salary Range

$99,035 - $148,552
