Reporting directly to the CFO and working closely with the CEO, you’ll own our accounting function end to end, from close and reporting to audit, technical accounting, and investor reporting.\nThis is not a role for maintaining the status quo. We expect our Controller to rebuild how finance works, using AI and modern tooling to redesign our close, reconciliation, and reporting processes so the team scales without adding headcount at the same rate as the business.\nThis role is ideal for a licensed CPA with deep technical accounting skills, insurance industry experience, and the judgment to act as a true partner to the CFO. You thrive in high-accountability environments, take pride in accurate and well-documented work, and are energized by building rather than inheriting.\nLocation\nThis is a hybrid role based in our NYC office, with an expectation of 3-4 days per week in office.\nWhat You’ll Do\nServe as the CFO’s primary partner on accounting, reporting, and finance operations, stepping in to lead on priorities as needed\nOwn the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis\nLead technical accounting for complex and non-routine transactions\nRedesign core finance processes using AI and automation, evaluating, implementing, and scaling tools that shorten the close, reduce manual work, and strengthen controls\nOversee premium accounting, including monthly premium remittances and reconciliations with insurance carrier partners and fiduciary/trust account management\nDesign and maintain a scalable internal control environment appropriate for a growing, investor-backed company\nLead the annual audit and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors\nPrepare financial statements, board materials, and investor and lender reporting, including covenant compliance\nOversee regulatory filings and tax compliance in partnership with outside advisors\nCollaborate with FP&A, Legal, Operations, and Product to ensure accurate reporting and turn financial data into actionable insight\nBuild, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including the Assistant Controller\nWhat You Bring\nActive CPA license required\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s a plus\n8+ years of relevant experience, including time at a public accounting firm (Big 4 or national firm preferred)\nInsurance industry experience (carrier, MGA, or brokerage), including familiarity with premium accounting and carrier reconciliations\nDeep technical command of U.S. GAAP and the ability to research, document, and defend accounting positions\nDemonstrated proficiency using AI tools in finance work, with examples of processes you’ve rebuilt or automated and the results\nPrivate equity-backed company experience strongly preferred, including investor reporting, lender covenants, and transaction support\nExperience with NetSuite strongly preferred; comfort evaluating and implementing new finance systems\nTrack record of building or scaling internal controls and audit readiness\nExcellent communication skills and the presence to partner with the CFO, CEO, board, and auditors\nSelf-starter with a builder’s mindset who thrives in a fast-paced environment\nBenefits\nOpportunities to make an impact within a fast growing company\nMedical, dental, & vision insurance, beginning day one\nHealth savings account with employer contribution\nFlexible spending accounts (healthcare, dependent care, commuter)\n401(k)\nGenerous PTO and paid holidays\nIn-office lunch perk\nFlexible working hours\nPaid parental leave\nCompany sponsored short and long term disability\nBase Salary\nThe base salary range is between $210,000 - $240,000 annually.\nBase salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits.
