In this role, you will help modernize VA’s eligibility and enrollment systems, supporting millions of Veterans, their families, and caregivers. If you have experience in working with VA, Next.js, Java 17+, and Spring Boot, we’d love to hear from you.\nWhat You'll Do\nDesign, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications\n\nAnalyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues\n\nSupport enhancements and sustainment activities for applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies\n\nCollaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives\n\nDevelop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations\n\nParticipate in code reviews and mentor junior developers\n\nContribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and application deployments\n\nThis position requires demonstrated, hands-on experience with BOTH of the following:\nDesigning and implementing REST and SOAP-based services and integrations.\n\nDeveloping and maintaining backend services using Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs.\n\nWhat You'll Bring\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)\n\n5-8 years of software development experience in professional environment\n\nStrong hands on experience with Java development\n\nHands on experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot\n\nHand on experience developing REST APIs and web services\n\nExperience working with Oracle or other relational databases\n\nExperience using Git-based source control\n\nExperience working in Agile/Scrum
