We’ve created a new generation of materials - sustainable, high-performing, and designed to disappear. All of our materials are broken down by microorganisms in the soil. By reimagining how plastics are made, we’re tackling one of the world’s most urgent environmental challenges. We’ve already shipped millions of groundbreaking products and now we’re designing the next ones that are going to change the world. You’ll be joining a team of experts in materials science, design and manufacturing who are obsessed with sustainability and innovation.\nHere are some of the people you’ll work with:\n\nThe mission of this role\nYour mission is to enable our high-volume production to reach the next level by optimising continuous manufacturing and bringing the next phase of materials to scale. You will resolve common failure modes seen in manufacturing and dive into understanding how raw material variability affects manufacturing efficiency. You will use your expertise in process engineering to minimise waste and drive our plastic-free materials to the next level. If you're passionate about using your process engineering skills to solve complex challenges and create a better future, this is the perfect role for you.\nKey Responsibilities \nRun experiments to optimise our material blends to optimise manufacturing and reduce waste.\n\nResolve common quality issues seen in our products allowing us to achieve cost down to achieve parity with plastic.\n\nSolve the unknowns in our manufacturing processes through experimentation and design to resolve common quality failures.\n\nDeepen our knowledge of our manufacturing processes by studying the variables which control how products are made.\n\nBring new materials to scale by working closely with the Materials team on the scale-up.\n\nBring new manufacturing processes to scale through working closely with the Manufacturing Innovation team.\n\nWork closely with our manufacturing partners to understand their manufacturing setups - the pain points, process parameters, and machine design.\n\nCollaborate on world-first projects across the materials, design engineering, manufacturing innovation and operations teams.\n\nOur Ideal Candidate\nHolds a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science or Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering\n\nHas 1-3 years of industry experience in a relevant industrial manufacturing environment or novel process development\n\nEnjoys hands-on working whether it is making new material blends, tweaking machine setups, or material characterisation\n\nIs passionate about sustainability, materials, and machine-material interaction\n\nIs a structured thinker who can design creative and effective design of experiments to uncover new insights\n\nIs a tenacious learner, especially when it comes to plastics manufacturing processes and polymer science\n\nIs a self-starter and is not afraid to jump into the unknown\n\nHas bias to action and is confident making decisions independently, even with incomplete information\n\nIs a team player who actively avoids silos and prioritises interdisciplinary problem solving\n\nIs a clear communicator, who proactively brings clarity when there is confusion or ambiguity\n\nWants to be in our London office and R&D facility at least 4 days a week and is motivated to travel domestically and internationally to work directly with partners\n\nOur Benefits\n25 days + bank holidays + Christmas shutdown\nDaily catered lunch at the office and team socials\nHeka wellbeing allowance - to spend on what matters to you - gym, therapy, nutrition, learning, fertility and menopause support, and lots of other options!\nVirtual GP - same or next day appointments and private prescriptions delivered to you\nCycle to work scheme - buy, subscribe to, or share a bike with savings of up to 42% via salary sacrifice\nCompetitive salary + equity options\nGrowth and development opportunities as we scale\nEnhanced parental leave - 12 weeks maternity at full pay, 6 weeks paternity at full pay\nA tightly knit, passionate team making a real impact.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4195,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":1,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Parental leave"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-12T07:41:42Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":10,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.374,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":80,"expected_fill_days":28,"reasons":["conf:3","win:tail","crowd:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-27T05:46:45Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":67590,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/theshellworks-process-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/theshellworks-process-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-28T01:46:36Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2388,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-29T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":721197},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=721197"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Ftheshellworks-process-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Ftheshellworks-process-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Ftheshellworks-process-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/theshellworks-process-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Ftheshellworks-process-engineer"}]}
