Data Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our team on a 12-month contract basis. In this role, you will specialise in building and maintaining robust data pipelines, transforming raw data into high-quality data products, and enabling scalable, automated analytics solutions using tools such as Snowflake, DBT, Snowpark, Alteryx, Power BI, and Tableau. A critical component of this position involves automating existing manual data analytics processes and delivering dynamic, self-refreshing Power BI dashboards that empower stakeholders to make timely, data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data products that transform raw source data into clean, reliable, and business-ready datasets.
• Build and manage data transformation workflows using DBT and Snowpark within the Snowflake environment, ensuring performance, accuracy, and maintainability.
• Create and manage automated job schedules, proactively monitor pipeline execution, troubleshoot failures, and ensure the timely delivery of data to downstream consumers.
• Automate existing manual data analytics processes and reporting workflows, improving efficiency and reducing operational overhead across the team.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards configured for automatic data refresh, ensuring stakeholders always have access to the most current and accurate insights.
• Partner with business stakeholders to understand reporting and data needs, translating complex business problems into comprehensive dashboards, data models, and analytical summaries.
• Enforce best practices around data quality, integrity, and governance across all data engineering solutions.
• Collaborate closely with Data Analysts and senior stakeholders to support and enhance the broader data and reporting ecosystem.
• Support and contribute to Azure-based cloud infrastructure and data workflows where applicable.

Requirements:

• Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Have 3-4 years of progressive, hands-on experience in data engineering or a closely related role, with a demonstrated ability to deliver end-to-end data solutions.
• Demonstrate strong proficiency in Snowflake, DBT, and Snowpark for data modelling, transformation, and pipeline development.
• Have practical experience with Alteryx for data preparation, blending, and workflow automation.
• Possess solid expertise in Power BI, including the development of dashboards with automated data refresh configurations, and working knowledge of Tableau.
• Have strong SQL skills, including complex data extraction, transformation, query optimisation, and performance tuning.
• Show a proven ability to automate manual processes and build reliable, scheduled data workflows with appropriate monitoring and alerting.
• Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and a business-oriented mindset, with the ability to translate ambiguous business challenges into clear, actionable data products and visualisations.
• Possess good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders.
• Are comfortable working independently in a contract capacity, managing your own workload and delivering outcomes within agreed timelines.

Nice to Have:

• Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks such as scripting, automation, and pipeline development.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, or related cloud data services.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools such as Git.
• Prior exposure to machine learning workflows or AI-assisted analytics solutions.
