Possess the ability operating and performing set ups on both vertical and horizontal milling machines. Responsible for the proper use and maintenance of all measuring tools and devices used in inspection of all components. Works under general supervision. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.\nHours for this position are 3:45pm - 12:15am Monday - Friday. This position qualifies for a shift differential and a $5,000.00 sign on bonus.\nEssential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:\nPerforms set ups on both Vertical and Horizontal CNC Milling Machines (3 & 4 axis).\nExperience with Haas and Fanuc controls.\nUnderstanding of Virtual Gibbs and manual programming (G codes/M codes).\nFamiliar with the operation of DNC systems.\nMachines and/or fabricating precision tools and fixturing to tight tolerances and complex geometries based on specifications.\nSolid understanding of mechanical design and dimensioning principles which includes reading blueprints and geometric tolerances comprehension.\nDemonstrates a high level of knowledge in programming and overall machine operation.\nUnderstands material properties (rates of expansion, strength, hardness) and special machining requirements.\nMeasures, inspects, and troubleshoots dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.\nCompletes routine and priority tasks defined by management to ensure on time deliveries.\nPerforms periodic machine maintenance such as but not limited to dismantling or partly dismantling machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts.\nComply with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.\nIn addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:\nMeeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.\nAdhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.\nThe Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.\nPhysical Activities:\nWork may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally. While performing the duties, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Some employees may come into contact with potentially harmful chemicals or fumes, but ventilation systems normally minimize any harmful effects, and the work areas may be noisy at times.\nRequirements\nExperience:\nMinimum 4 years of experience in a similar position preferred plus training in CNC Programming\nEducation:\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent work experience\nCNC certification or CNC Trade School, a major plus\nSpecialized Knowledge and Skills:\nKnowledge of Lean Principles including “Just in Time”, and Setup Time Reduction a plus\nPrototyping experience a plus\nStrong sense of ownership and work ethic, written and verbal communication skills\nProficient computer skills is a must\nStrong ability to work well in a group atmosphere, and comply with high quality standards.\nStrong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.\nPay range for this position is $27.00 - $36.00 depending on experience\n#INDMP\nThorlabs values its diverse environment and is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
