The General Helpers position is a critical or key component in the success and the flow of the machine shop. The top priority is to support the CNC Machinists in any way that they can. Works under general supervision. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. Hours for this position are 5:45a.m. - 2:15p.m. Monday - Friday\nEssential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:\nResponsible for general maintenance such as sweeping, mopping, emptying trash cans, etc.\nResponsible for efficiently unloading trucks, cut stock, and deliver material to specific machines\nMachines various parts on manual equipment with guidance from set-up crew\nRuns production parts on CNC machines, deburrs and operates laser engraver\nFinisher- tumbles machined parts, polishes extrusions, bead blasting\nComplies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.\nIn addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:\nMeeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.\nAdhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.\nThe Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.\nRequirements\nQualifications\nExperience:\nMinimum 1 year of experience in a maintenance shop or manufacturing environment.\nEducation:\nHigh School diploma or equivalent\nSpecialized Knowledge and Skills:\nStrong sense of ethical conduct\nStrong ability to take initiative/ownership\nStrong ability to work well in a group atmosphere, and comply with high quality standards.\nStrong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.\nAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.\nAbility to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.\nPhysical Activities:\nWork may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments.
