You work with business development, solution architects and delivery leaders to take opportunities from a whiteboard sketch to a credible solution: a clear architecture, explicit trade-offs, realistic estimates and a practical path to production. You engage directly with client technology leaders across Thai enterprises, from large conglomerates and financial institutions to retail powerhouses, and you earn credibility by going deep on how systems really work: at scale, under failure and within real-world constraints.\nYou should be comfortable moving between discovery workshops, design reviews, proof-of-concept builds and early delivery support. You design across the full stack of modern systems, including APIs, data stores, caching, messaging, cloud infrastructure, security and observability. You also bring AI into the picture in a practical way, designing ML and LLM-powered solutions that are reliable, cost-aware and responsible.\nJob responsibilities\nTranslate business goals and non-functional requirements (scale, latency, availability, security and cost) into clear solution designs, using back-of-the-envelope estimation to size systems early.\nDesign end-to-end architectures covering API design, service decomposition, data modelling and storage, caching, messaging and event-driven integration.\nMake architecture trade-offs explicit, such as consistency vs. availability, SQL vs. NoSQL, sync vs. async and build vs. buy, and document them through design reviews and architecture decision records.\nDesign for resilience and scale, including high availability, fault tolerance, horizontal scaling, replication, sharding, rate limiting and disaster recovery.\nShape cloud-native solutions on AWS, Azure or GCP, including containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD and safe deployment strategies.\nBuild security, identity and observability into designs from the start, covering authentication and authorization, encryption, secrets management, logging, metrics and tracing.\nDesign AI-enabled solutions, from ML systems (data pipelines, training, serving and monitoring) to GenAI applications (RAG, agents, evaluation, guardrails, and cost and latency optimization).\nBuild proofs of concept, reference implementations and technical spikes to validate critical design choices and de-risk proposals before commitment.\nSupport pursuits with solution designs, architecture diagrams, estimations and the technical sections of proposals and RFP responses in both Thai and English.\nPresent designs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, using simple visual explanations of how a system works and why it is built that way.\nPartner with delivery teams to hand over designs, guide early implementation and ensure what is designed can be built, operated and evolved.\nMentor engineers, run design clinics and contribute reusable design patterns and thought leadership that strengthen Thoughtworks’ engineering reputation in the Thailand market.\nJob qualifications\nTechnical Skills\nSystem Design Fundamentals: Strong grasp of scalability, latency, throughput, availability and consistency, including CAP theorem, consistent hashing, load balancing, CDNs and capacity estimation.\nAPI & Integration Design: Experience designing REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket and webhook interfaces, API gateways, pagination, idempotency and versioning.\nData & Storage: Practical knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, indexing, replication, sharding, transactions and isolation levels, object storage and change data capture.\nCaching & Performance: Ability to apply caching strategies, eviction policies and Redis/CDN patterns to reduce latency and improve performance at scale.\nMessaging & Distributed Systems: Experience with message queues and event streaming (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ), event-driven architecture, delivery semantics, retries, distributed locks and sagas.\nSoftware Architecture & Design: Solid understanding of microservices, domain-driven design, object-oriented design, SOLID principles and design patterns, and when simpler is better.\nCloud & DevOps: Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform, containers and Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD and deployment strategies such as blue-green and canary.\nSecurity: Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, SSO, encryption in transit and at rest, API security and secure-by-design practices.\nObservability & Reliability: Experience designing logging, metrics, tracing and alerting, and applying resiliency patterns such as circuit breakers, timeouts and retries.\nML & GenAI System Design: Familiarity with end-to-end ML systems (recommendation, search and ranking) and LLM-based applications, including RAG, agents, evaluation and guardrails.\nHands-on Engineering: Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, strong data structures and algorithms, clean coding habits and the ability to build working prototypes.\nDomain Awareness: Exposure to systems common in Thailand/SEA, such as payments and QR payment, digital banking, e-commerce, telco or mobile apps, is a strong plus.\nProfessional Skills\nStructured Problem Solving: Ability to clarify ambiguous requirements, define scope and constraints, and work through a design step by step.\nTrade-off Communication: Ability to explain options, risks and trade-offs clearly and justify recommendations with evidence.\nVisual Communication: Strength in producing clear architecture diagrams and visual explanations that make complex systems easy to understand.\nStakeholder Engagement: Confidence working with client technology leaders, architects and engineering teams in workshops and design reviews.\nCommercial Awareness: Understanding of how design choices affect estimates, cost, delivery risk and client value.\nCollaboration & Mentoring: Experience coaching engineers and working across business development, architecture and delivery teams.\nContinuous Learning: Curiosity to keep up with evolving architectures, cloud services and AI, and to apply them pragmatically.\nLanguage Skills: Proficiency in Thai
