The ideal candidate will have a broad range of hands-on mechanical skills, general machine shop knowledge, carpentry experience, and the ability to assist with fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair projects.\nThis position is ideal for a versatile, hardworking individual who enjoys working with their hands, solving mechanical problems, and supporting a variety of technical and engineering projects. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced shop environment, utilizing hand and power tools, and assisting skilled machinists, mechanics, and engineering personnel.\nKey Responsibilities\nPerform general mechanical work, including assembly, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical components and equipment.\nAssist machinists and engineering personnel with fabrication, modification, assembly, and repair of parts, equipment, and systems.\nPerform general carpentry tasks, including measuring, cutting, drilling, fastening, assembling, and modifying wooden structures and components.\nOperate common hand tools, power tools, and general shop equipment safely and effectively.\nAssist with basic metal fabrication, grinding, drilling, cutting, sanding, and finishing operations.\nSupport the assembly and integration of mechanical systems, prototypes, and custom-engineered equipment.\nPerform routine maintenance and minor repairs on shop equipment, tools, and machinery.\nRead and interpret basic technical drawings, diagrams, measurements, and assembly instructions.\nAssist with material handling, inventory organization, equipment movement, and shop setup.\nMaintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.\nIdentify mechanical issues and assist in developing practical solutions.\nWork collaboratively with machinists, technicians, engineers, and other shop personnel to complete assigned projects.\nPerform additional general shop duties as required to support Mission Engineering \nRequired Qualifications\nHigh school diploma or GED required.\nPrevious hands-on experience working in a machine shop, mechanical repair facility, fabrication shop, maintenance environment, construction trade, or similar technical setting.\nGeneral knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, equipment, and shop practices.\nPractical experience using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and common shop equipment.\nBasic carpentry skills, including measuring, cutting, assembling, and installing materials.\nAbility to perform general mechanical assembly, maintenance, and repair tasks.\nBasic understanding of shop safety procedures and proper equipment operation.\nAbility to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently or as part of a team.\nStrong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.\nWillingness to perform a variety of tasks and assist wherever needed within the shop.\nPreferred Qualifications\n2+ years of experience in a machine shop, fabrication shop, mechanical maintenance, or related hands-on trade.\nExperience working alongside machinists, welders, fabricators, or mechanical engineers.\nFamiliarity with drill presses, band saws, grinders, sanders, and other common machine shop equipment.\nExperience with basic metalworking, fabrication, or welding support.\nExperience assembling mechanical equipment, fixtures, prototypes, or custom-built systems.\nBasic understanding of mechanical drawings, blueprints, and dimensional measurements.\nPrevious experience in a defense contracting, manufacturing, engineering, or military maintenance environment.\nExperience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material-handling equipment.\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in a shop environment for extended periods.\nAbility to lift and move materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate.\nAbility to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery.\nAbility to work in an environment where noise, dust, and other typical machine shop conditions may be present.\nAbility to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).\nIdeal Candidate\nWe are looking for a hands-on, mechanically capable individual who can wear multiple hats in a busy shop environment.
