The work of the Application Engineer, Inv involves planning, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support. This role operates at the intersection of application engineering, data integration, and production support, enabling portfolio managers, analysts, and operations teams through reliable, scalable, and well-governed technology solutions. The Application Engineer, Inv focuses on individual application components or subsystems within larger systems, working in a collaborative team environment.\nJob Responsibilities and Duties\nProvide support for business applications (proprietary and/or vendor applications) including:Enhancement and/or new development work on projects.\nUpgrades to existing systems and platforms.\nRoutine maintenance and support activities.\nParticipation in on-call rotation to provide 24x7 support for production systems.\n\nWork collaboratively in a team environment with business partners, analysts, and other application engineers. Use established agile methodologies and tools to identify, verify, and document technical features supporting business-driven technology solutions.\nWork with other application engineers and architects to ensure application components function appropriately, data impacts are considered and change management processes are followed.\nDevelop, integrate, test, debug, and document application components using a variety of technologies.\nInstall and deploy application components by following implementation and verification procedures to ensure successful production outcomes.\nMentor other Application Engineers to develop skills and knowledge.\nAutomate recurring processes involving data ingestion, transformation, validation, and reporting to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.\nSupport analytics platforms and environments used by data analysts, including managing dependencies and ensuring reproducibility.\nMaintain documentation for applications, data flows, and operational procedures.\nDesign, develop, enhance, and maintain application components, data pipelines, and integrations supporting investment systems and analytics workflows.\nBuild and maintain data integrations and pipelines supporting portfolio holdings, reference data, benchmark/index data, pricing, and performance-related workflows.\nDevelop and support APIs and integrations across internal systems and external vendor platforms.\nDiagnose and resolve moderately complex issues across application code, data pipelines, APIs, databases, and infrastructure environments (Linux/Windows).\nJob Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, business, mathematics, or related field.\n3+ years’ technical experience in application engineering, data engineering, or production support.\nExperience with development languages, tools, and structures (e.g., Java, OpenShift, SQL, Snowflake, dbt, GitHub, PowerBI or similar technologies).\nExperience with vendor package implementation and system integration.\nBusiness knowledge for the area of support.\nExperience working with data pipelines, APIs, or system integrations.\nExperience troubleshooting issues across applications, data, and infrastructure layers.\nOther Critical Factors\nExperience with Asset Management preferred.\nStrong critical thinking abilities to assess application systems and design effective solutions across application and data domains.\nAbility to make sound judgments when evaluating business and technical environments and recommending solutions.\nStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across distributed systems and data workflows.\nDemonstrates a continuous learning mindset and adaptability across modern and legacy technologies.\nWorks effectively as a member of a cross-functional team, iterating on solutions while supporting 24x7 production systems.\nStrong attention to detail, particularly with data quality, accuracy, and operational reliability.\nAbility to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and business audiences.\nProactive mindset focused on automation, process improvement, and reducing manual effort.\nAdditional Information\nThis position requires you to work on-site in Minneapolis, MN a minimum of three days a week.\nPay Transparency\nThrivent’s long-term growth depends on attracting, rewarding, and retaining people who are committed to helping others thrive with purpose. The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $94,175.00 - $127,413.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions.
