We own the metrics, dashboards, and forums that measure progress against company goals and build shared understanding of how the marketplace works. We run the deep-dive analyses that shape company strategy and team execution, and we use data to tell Thumbtack’s story to our team, our investors, and our Board. We are a tight-knit group that partners directly with leadership and cares as much about building a world-class team as we do about driving business impact.\nAbout the role\nAs a Sr. Data Scientist on Business Analytics, you’ll drive insights and action across the breadth of the marketplace, with a particular focus on conversion and monetization. You’ll be a steward of key company metrics and dashboards, and you’ll dive deep on the analytical questions most critical to Thumbtack’s success. You’ll partner with our leadership team to develop company strategy and goals, share performance updates with the Board, and work across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to turn analysis into decisions. This is a high-visibility role for someone who wants their work to change what the company does next.\nWhat you’ll do\nDefine, monitor, and report on the key metrics that measure Thumbtack’s success\n\nLead business performance analysis and reporting that surfaces emerging risks and opportunities for leadership\n\nConduct deep-dive analyses that answer the questions most critical to Thumbtack’s future strategy\n\nSupport and improve the company revenue forecasting model and the broader forecasting and planning process\n\nBuild and maintain the dashboards and self-serve tools that teams across the company rely on\n\nPartner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and the leadership team to translate insight into action\n\nStrengthen our data culture through peer collaboration, review, training, and coaching\n\nIn order to be successful, you must bring\n6+ years of experience in a highly analytical role, preferably in tech; experience in a marketplace or two-sided platform business is a plus\n\nProficiency using SQL and Python or R to analyze large data sets\n\nExemplary analytical problem solving: a solid statistics foundation, strong business judgment, comfort navigating ambiguity, and the ability to synthesize insight from analysis\n\nExperience partnering with executives to understand business needs and drive decisions\n\nStrong communication skills - an attentive listener and a compelling explainer across technical and non-technical audiences\n\nExperience with using AI to automate workflows and enable self-serve analytics\n\nExperience with revenue modeling and forecasting, ideally in a high-growth or public company environment\n\nExpected salary ranges\nFor candidates living in Ontario and British Columbia, the expected salary range for the role is currently $168,300.00 - $217,800.00.\n\nActual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.\nThumbtack embraces diversity.
