We have a friendly environment where the rapid growth of our business means we support the development of our talented people.\nTHX aspires to be the hire company of choice for specialist contractors, offering the latest in a very large range of hire equipment.\nYou will be responsible for:\nLeading, training and developing the workshop team day to day, including running one-to-ones, with support from the Workshop Controller and Workshop Manager on team development and performance\nKeeping the section resourced, including approving holidays and checking staff are booked on and present\nReviewing stock availability daily, setting and briefing the team on the day's inspection and repair priorities, and checking priority items are being worked\nInspecting and testing returning hire equipment, including PAT testing and calibration, and making sure the team works to the same standard and records it correctly (training given)\nDiagnosing and repairing faults on a very large range of mechanical and electrical tools and equipment, balancing your own hands-on work with allocating work across the team\nActing as the team's go-to for technical problems, and working with other THX departments on breakdowns and department-specific enquiries\nDeciding which repairs are carried out in-house and which are sent to third-party suppliers\nUsing a computer-based system for administration and planning, including keeping the operations board up to date\nUpholding health and safety, PPE, branding and housekeeping standards across the workshop, yard and warehouse areas\nWorking with the Workshop Controller to structure and grow the workshop, recording performance and helping the team achieve their targets\nMaking sure the section is ready at the end of each day, with everything due to ship gone and the team set up for the next morning\nMonday to Friday working hours, overtime may sometimes be required to meet customer demand.\nCurrently based in Bedford (MK41 0QB), but relocating in the new year to MK43 0YL.\nRequirements\nIt is essential that you bring:\nPrevious experience in the maintenance and repair of a wide range of equipment and tools\nStrong mechanical and electrical skills, with the technical knowledge to diagnose and fix faults\nSupervisory experience, or the right attitude to guiding, instructing and developing staff\nThe ability to work from technical manuals, wiring diagrams and manufacturer specifications\nGood computer and MS Office skills, with accurate paperwork and record-keeping\nExcellent communication skills with staff, customers and managers\nStrong planning, organisation and time-management skills\nA safety-conscious approach and a good eye for detail\nA practical, can-do attitude with the ability to work quickly and methodically\nThe ability to work on your own initiative while being a genuine team player\nIt would be great if you also have:\nA recognised mechanical or electrical qualification (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds or apprenticeship)\nExperience of PAT testing or calibration\nExperience working on electro-mechanical, hydraulic or power tool equipment\nExperience in the tool or plant hire industry\nA full UK driving licence\nBenefits\nBenefits:\nCompetitive Salary \nRecharge with 25 Days Holiday (plus Bank Holiday’s on top).\nLooking after your future with a Company Pension.\nSpecial recognition and rewards incentives.\nEmployee Assistance Programme\nA great opportunity to join an expanding Company.\nFree on-site parking.\nOn-the-job training, with opportunities to build skills and grow within a fast-expanding company\nA supportive, friendly team culture built on our values of Humility, Innovation, being Refreshing and Energetic\nTHX Values: As a family-centred business, people are at the heart of everything we do.
