This position involves a blend of technical expertise, quality control, maintenance, and, often, personnel supervision.Purpose of the Role\nTo ensure the efficient and safe operation of the milling plant by optimising production performance, maintaining product quality, minimising operational losses and ensuring compliance with food safety, health and safety, and company standards. The role is responsible for achieving production targets, maintaining equipment efficiency and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the milling environment.\nKey Responsibilities\n1. Asset and Equipment Management\nEnsure optimal utilisation and continuous availability of milling equipment to achieve production targets.\nMinimise equipment downtime through proactive monitoring, preventative maintenance coordination and timely reporting of faults.\nSupport initiatives aimed at reducing milling and engineering costs.\nEnsure machinery operates efficiently and within established production parameters.\n2. Inventory and Stock Management\nMaintain finished product, consumable, vitamin and additive stock levels in accordance with agreed inventory targets.\nMonitor stock usage and ensure accurate inventory control and reporting.\nIdentify and minimise manufacturing losses, waste and stock variances.\nSupport effective stock rotation and material utilisation.\n3. Financial and Operational Efficiency\nDrive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and reduce operating costs.\nMinimise product losses, waste and inventory write-offs.\nAchieve targeted manufacturing efficiencies while maintaining quality specifications.\nOptimise resource utilisation to support cost-effective milling operations.\n4. Corporate Governance and Compliance\nEnsure adherence to Tiger Brands' policies, procedures and operational standards.\nMaintain accurate operational records and ensure compliance with internal control requirements.\nPromote ethical conduct, accountability and responsible business practices.\n5. Health, Safety, Risk and Environmental Management\nEnsure compliance with statutory, occupational health and safety, environmental and company requirements.\nIdentify, report and address workplace hazards and operational risks.\nMaintain readiness for internal and external audits and contribute towards achieving targeted audit scores.\nPromote a safe working environment through adherence to established safety procedures.\n6. Quality Assurance and Food Safety\nMaintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety standards and applicable legislation.\nMonitor milling processes to ensure consistent finished product quality.\nIdentify and address product deviations to minimise non-conformances and customer complaints.\nSupport corrective and preventative actions to maintain quality standards.\n7. Training, Leadership and Teamwork\nSupport the development and continuous improvement of operational skills within the milling team.\nCollaborate with maintenance, quality and production teams to improve plant availability and production efficiency.\nPromote teamwork, accountability, positive employee engagement and a high-performance culture.\nContribute to reducing product deviations through effective communication and operational discipline.\n8. Milling Operations and Production Performance\nEnsure milling operations achieve targeted manufacturing efficiencies within prescribed quality specifications.\nOptimise milling equipment performance to achieve design capacity.\nMaintain milling downtime below 0.5% of total scheduled milling hours.\nMonitor production performance, identify operational inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.\nEnsure consistent production output while maintaining safety, quality and cost standards.\nMinimum Qualifications and Experience\nQualified Wheat and/or Maize Miller with a recognised SAGMA/GMF trade qualification.\nQualification in both Wheat and Maize Milling will be advantageous.\nApproximately 5 years' relevant experience within the milling industry, preferably wheat milling.\nSound knowledge of milling processes, production optimisation and equipment performance.\nKnowledge of grain fumigation, insect infestation prevention and pest management practices.\nUnderstanding of food safety, quality assurance and manufacturing compliance requirements.\nWillingness and availability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as operationally required.\nKey Skills and Competencies\nTechnical and Professional Competencies\nStrong understanding of wheat milling operations and production processes.\nSound analytical, troubleshooting and decision-making abilities.\nKnowledge of production efficiencies, quality control and inventory management.\nAbility to identify operational risks and implement sustainable solutions.\nCommitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.\nLeadership and Personal Effectiveness\nDemonstrates accountability and takes ownership of responsibilities.\nResults-driven with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.\nSelf-motivated and capable of working independently.\nStrong organisational and time-management skills.\nAssertive, diplomatic and professional in dealing with stakeholders.\nAbility to perform effectively under pressure and meet operational deadlines.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills in English.\nDemonstrates integrity, adaptability, teamwork and a willingness to learn.\nAbility to anticipate challenges and contribute to long-term operational improvements.\nWorking Conditions\nIndustry: FMCG -
