Tillster is the place for you-we are seeking an experienced Software Engineer.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Mid-Level Software Engineer (SSWE), BACK END you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining our cloud-based microservices. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet business needs while following best practices, including design patterns, architectural patterns, thorough testing methodologies, and modern AI developer tools to accelerate quality software delivery. You will contribute to fostering an agile, collaborative, and high-performing development environment.\nWhat You'll Do\nBuilding highly scalable, secure, and high-performance microservices using AWS and TypeScript. Apply key software engineering principles, design patterns, and architectural best practices.\n\nLeverage state-of-the-art AI developer tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, LLM reasoning models) to accelerate context gathering, boilerplating, test generation, and code refactoring.\n\nBuild and maintain microservices that communicate via well-defined APIs, ensuring service modularity and scalability.\n\nImplement robust unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests to ensure high-quality code. Work towards achieving high test coverage and adopting test-driven development (TDD) where applicable.\n\nActively participate in Agile ceremonies (Scrum or Kanban) such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog refinement. Contribute to sprint goals and collaborate effectively with the team.\n\nConduct and participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, maintainability, and critically evaluating AI-generated code outputs for security and correctness.\n\nParticipate in design sessions to help improve the overall architecture of the platform.\n\nWork with stakeholders and product owners to understand requirements and come up with solutions.\n\nContinuous learning: Tillster provides access to learning courses where you can beef up your skills in different areas as needed.\n\nAbout You\n2+ years’ experience in design and development of service-oriented Java, Python, C#, Typescript (or any modern language) applications.\n\nExperience in designing and building microservice-based systems, ensuring high cohesion and loose coupling.\n\nLanguages: Any modern OOP language will do, but Typescript is preferred.\n\nComfortable integrating AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT/Claude) into your daily workflow to boost engineering velocity while maintaining deep critical code validation.\n\nExperience implementing comprehensive testing strategies including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests.\n\nExperience with relational or NoSQL data stores.\n\nExpertise in applying industry-standard design patterns and architectural patterns.\n\nAbility to communicate effectively in English, with good verbal and written skills.\n\nExperience working in an Agile environment (Scrum or Kanban), contributing to team-driven development processes.\n\nUnderstanding of security best practices in software development, including OAuth, JWT, encryption, etc.\n\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or similar) or equivalent experience.\n\nPrior experience with AWS serverless and companion technologies like DynamoDB, SQS, etc. would be great but not required.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a mindset geared toward continuous improvement.\n\nComfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to handle ambiguity and changing requirements.\nThe Interview Process\nRecruiter interview with a Talent Acquisition specialist\n\nAI-assisted pair programming exercise / code review interview with our Back End Engineering Manager\n\nFinal interview with our Program leader TCE\n\nPay and Benefits (USA)\nSalary is Salary is $95,000 - $125,000 DOE\n\nHealth Benefits: All full-time, regular employees and their dependents are eligible for medical, dental, vision and FSA benefits.
