EDS is Toast’s central data organization - building the trusted, scalable foundation that enables every domain to operate with data confidently.\nYou will own the data platform and the self-service experience that domain technical data teams operate within. Your stakeholder is the engineer, the analyst, the domain data team building and maintaining data products across Toast’s ecosystem. You own the platform roadmap - what capabilities exist, what gets built next, and how the self-service experience evolves as domains mature. You design paved paths that make the right way the easy way, drive adoption of platform capabilities, and partner deeply with Data Engineering & Platform as Data Governance to define what the ecosystem needs to become. As domains grow more independent, your work becomes more critical - the platform is what makes decentralized operation sustainable at scale.\nA day in the life (Responsibilities)\nOwn the platform product roadmap - catalog, semantic layer, observability, access management, lineage, and self-service tooling - prioritizing by what unlocks domain independence.\nDesign and evolve the self-service experience: discovery, onboarding, certification workflows, and documentation.\nRun discovery with domain technical data teams - understand their needs, pain points, and maturity - and translate into platform requirements.\nDesign the paved paths, templates, and tooling domain teams follow to build and maintain data products - ensuring governance standards are enforceable through platform capabilities.\nDrive platform adoption. Measure whether teams are using what you shipped and iterate until they are.\nPartner hand-in-hand with Data Engineering & Platform - they build and operate the platform; you define what it needs to become and why - balancing new capability against reliability and operational excellence.\nEnsure domain maturity progression is unblocked by tooling - teams ready to advance have what they need.\nMaintain interoperability - data products built by any domain are discoverable, governed, and consumable by others (humans and AI agents).\nWhat you'll need to thrive (Requirements)\n7+ years in product management, with significant experience in data platforms, developer tools, or infrastructure products\nExperience designing for technical teams as the customer - building tools, frameworks, and paved paths that engineers and analysts adopt willingly\nTrack record shipping platform capabilities that enable self-service at scale\nExperience operating in strategic ambiguity - this function is being built, not inherited\nDeep understanding of the modern data stack: warehouses, orchestration, semantic layers, catalogs, data quality frameworks, observability\nFamiliarity with data mesh or federated data architecture - strong systems thinker who designs operating models and platform experiences, not just features\nExperience in restaurant tech, fintech, or B2B SaaS preferred\nFamiliarity with AI enablement and experience defining platform adoption metrics preferred\nAI at Toast\nAt Toast, one of our company values is that we're hungry to build and learn. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location.
