The POS needs to work as fast as possible, and if the network has problems, it needs to keep running. Meeting these requirements means pushing our technology stack to the limits. The impact is tangible and direct: small changes in the tightest loops pay off many thousands of times over, improving staff job satisfaction, the guest experience, and the restaurant's bottom line.\nWe are seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead the POS Payments Experience team. You will lead a high-performing team of engineers who work hand-in-hand with PM and UX, and partner across POS and Fintech teams. Engineers on the team also contribute to our web-based POS payments configuration experience.\nA day in the life (Responsibilities)\nDrive delivery of business outcomes for POS payments, including planning, schedule, and execution\nDrive cross-team and cross-organization efforts, especially across POS and Fintech, with predictable results and excellent collaboration\nCollaborate closely with PM and UX to fill the team's backlog with actionable, valuable work\nEnsure end-to-end quality and delivery of software, including ownership of monitoring and production issues\nPartner with technical leaders to set technical direction and continuously improve architecture, codebase, and engineering practice\nHire and develop new team members\nCoach individuals in professional and technical development\nChampion the use of AI tools and practices to accelerate development, improve team velocity, and pioneer new ways of building, setting the bar for what it means to be an AI-first engineering organization\nWhat you'll need to thrive (Requirements)\nExperience leading and mentoring successful teams to drive predictable business results\nExperience delivering mobile products (Android preferred) to a large customer base, and working in mobile codebases with a large number of developers\nStrong technical background in Java, Kotlin, and Android that you use to guide your team's decisions and plans\nExperience managing a mix of core contributions and cross-team engagements\nExperience communicating technical designs and contributing to the design process\nNot afraid to get hands-on or go deep to help the team reach its goals, and you encourage high agency and exploring creative outlets\nA collaborative, solution-oriented approach with business and product leaders\nA desire to build diverse teams that win together and prioritize customer success\nAI at Toast\nAt Toast, one of our company values is that we're hungry to build and learn.
