Our integrations sync sales, payments, payroll and supplier data from Toast into accounting platforms accurately and on time, so owners can close their books with confidence.\nWe're hiring a Senior Software Engineer (P3) to build full stack features for Toast's Accounting Integrations team in Chennai. The team sits in the Suppliers & Accounting division and connects Toast to the accounting software our customers run their books on. This is a high-growth moment for the team. We're extending our integrations to support Toast's expansion into Retail, and partnering across lines of business with the Fintech team to power in-house bookkeeping through Toast Books. You'll work with Java, Kotlin, React and AWS, and use AI tools every day to ship faster and better.\nA day in the life (Responsibilities)\nIndependently design and implement well-defined features across the full stack, from backend sync services to the merchant-facing setup and mapping UI, with minimal day-to-day guidance.\nBuild and maintain backend services in Java and Kotlin that sync financial data (sales, payments, payouts, invoices, journal entries) from Toast to external accounting platforms.\nBuild and consume RESTful APIs, and integrate with third-party accounting APIs and internal Toast systems, handling auth, rate limits, retries and idempotency.\nDevelop frontend features in React with TypeScript, focusing on usability and performance for restaurant and retail operators.\nDeploy and run services on AWS, and use observability tools to monitor sync health and data accuracy.\nUse AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Devin) daily for coding, testing, debugging and documentation, and share what works with the team.\nHelp explore and ship AI-powered capabilities in the product, such as smarter account mapping or automated reconciliation suggestions.\nCollaborate with Product, UX, QA and partner teams, including Fintech for Toast Books, to turn requirements into working software.\nWrite clean, maintainable, testable code aligned with Toast engineering standards, and take an active part in code reviews.\nTroubleshoot production issues in owned areas, contribute to root-cause analysis, and support the team during critical phases and on-call.\nDeliver on commitments with predictable cycle time, and communicate progress, risks and dependencies early.\nOwn components or features end-to-end within established architectural patterns, while growing toward larger system ownership.\nWhat you'll need to thrive (Requirements)\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline\n6 to 9 years of experience in software or full stack development.\nStrong backend experience in Java, with hands-on Kotlin experience or a clear willingness to become productive in it quickly.\nStrong frontend experience with React (or Angular) and TypeScript/JavaScript.\nExperience building and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party systems.\nHands-on experience with a cloud platform, preferably AWS (e.g., ECS/EKS, Lambda, SQS/SNS, S3, RDS/DynamoDB).\nAI fluency: regular, practical use of AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) in your workflow, and good judgment in reviewing and validating AI-generated code.\nWorking knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design and query tuning.\nFamiliarity with Gradle or Maven, Git and modern branching workflows.\nExperience working in Agile/Scrum teams.\nStrong problem-solving skills, attention to code quality and data correctness.\nClear written and verbal communication, including with distributed teams across time zones.\nThis is a hybrid role with 2 days per week in the Chennai office.\nWhat will help you standout (Nice to Have)\nExperience integrating with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage Intacct, NetSuite or Restaurant365.\nUnderstanding of accounting concepts: chart of accounts, journal entries, general ledger, reconciliation.\nExperience building with LLM APIs, prompt design, retrieval (RAG) or agentic workflows in production.\nExperience with event-driven architectures and messaging (Kafka, SQS/SNS) and resilient data sync patterns.\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CDK) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).\nBackground in fintech, payments, retail or POS domains.\nExperience in a large-scale SaaS or product engineering environment.\nAI at Toast\nAt Toast, one of our company values is that we're hungry to build and learn.
