That includes the event infrastructure every team at Toast uses to publish data, the frameworks partners and customers use to integrate through our APIs, and a new charter to make Toast the source of truth for all the data about the customers we serve. \nYou will play a role in evolving our architecture to support ever more complex new features and best-in-class monitoring as we scale to orders of magnitude of our current size!\nIf you want to help create something tangible that is used every day, help businesses achieve their vision, and take on the challenge of scaling a SaaS product, Toast is the place for you.\nA day in the life (Responsibilities)\nBe a part of team working collaboratively with UX, PM, QA and other engineers building web applications using modern web technologies \nDesign the systems that make app development automated, self-serve, and fast, including sandbox provisioning and a clean path to production.\nDefine best practices and help choose technologies to evolve our current tech stack while writing world-class applications\nChampioning best practices such as quality integration and unit testing\nProvide design feedback and participate in code reviews to ensure implementations meet requirements\nEnsure that all work done by the team is delivered with quality and is appropriately monitored and supported in production\nRaise the technical bar through architecture, design review, and code review, and mentor engineers across levels as the team grows.\nUse AI tools in your own workflow and help establish how the team uses them well, including how to critically evaluate what they produce.\nWhat you'll need to thrive (Requirements)\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)\n10+ years of experience building backend systems and APIs\nProficient in Java, Kotlin or other object oriented languages\nExperience designing platform APIs that other teams depend on - platform thinking, not just feature delivery\nIn-depth understanding of AWS, microservices, distributed systems, and enterprise messaging.\nThe ability to break down a problem, understand what the consuming team actually needs, and ship a clean solution. Our users are other engineers, and the ergonomics of the platform matter\nProficient with traditional databases.
