The intuitive and award-winning audio system has changed the way young children play and learn independently with its child-safe, wireless, and screen-free approach. Joining our tonies team means being part of an inspiring mission to create innovative and meaningful experiences for children around the world. Together, we’re shaping the future of play, learning, and imagination.

You as part of tonies:

As System Engineer Electronics (all genders) in the toniesOS team, you are the expert for all electronics hardware-related topics. The cross-functional toniesOS team is responsible for providing a reliable and flexible platform for all tonies devices and includes firmware as well as hardware. While intentionally being simple to use for children, the technology within our devices is complex incl. RF, power management, position sensing. Ready to help us create the future of audio play?

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Design Review & Evaluation: You review, evaluate, and provide critical technical feedback on hardware designs, ensuring performance and quality standards.
  • Component Qualification & Approval: You support the component approval process by ensuring potential parts align with our technical requirements.
  • ODM Coordination & On-site Support: You act as a sparring partner through consulting in a cross-functional setup with Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs). This includes global, on-site travel to troubleshoot integration challenges and design approvals.
  • Failure Analysis & Root Cause Determination: You conduct in-depth root-cause analysis (RCA) on customer returns and field failures. These insights will be used to implement preventative design measures and drive continuous improvement in our system architecture and overall hardware quality.
  • Early Product Design Validation and Requirements Specification: You accompany the transition from product prototyping into development by understanding and specifying electronics requirements with a focus on feasibility and industrialisation.

What we are looking for:

  • Extensive Professional Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in hardware engineering, system design, or a closely related field.
  • Academic Background: A degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • ODM Management Expertise: Demonstrated success in collaborating with and managing Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), including overseeing development cycles and technical partnerships.
  • Technical Proficiency: High proficiency in industry-standard ECAD tools for circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
  • Industrialisation Acumen: Solid hands-on experience in bringing electronic products from initial prototyping through to mass production, with a focus on DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and quality optimisation.
  • Local collaboration: Willingness to work multiple days per week from our Düsseldorf office to foster cross-functional collaboration
  • Global Mobility: Flexibility to travel internationally to support on-site integration, testing, and production activities as needed.
  • Communication: Fluency in English is mandatory; German or Mandarin is a strong advantage.

Why tonies?

  • Global Teamwork: We collaborate across departmental and country borders on our vision to bring the Toniebox into every child's room in the world.
  • Come as you are: This applies not only to the dress code but also to everything else. Because only where you truly feel comfortable can you give your best.
  • Mobility: Choose the option that suits you best - a Deutschlandticket (public transport ticket) for unlimited mobility, a monthly contribution for an office parking space, a leasing bicycle, or a remote work subsidy.
  • Enhanced Security: Benefit from subsidies for company pension plans, occupational pension schemes, and occupational disability insurance.
  • Rest & Time Off: Enjoy 30 days of paid annual leave as well as three additional days off such as Rosenmontag, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. After one year of employment, you can also use up to 10 "toniecation days" (unpaid leave days).
  • Continuous Learning: Benefit from our internal and external training opportunities as well as an individual learning budget to continuously expand your knowledge.
  • Language Learning & Relaxation: Improve your communication skills with the language learning app Babbel and find relaxation through our access to the meditation app Calm.
  • Discounts: Benefit from attractive discounts on our entire range of tonies products.

Good to know:

As part of our principles, we are committed to supporting inclusion and diversity at tonies. We actively celebrate our colleagues’ different abilities, ethnicities, faith and gender. Everyone is welcome and supported in their development at all stages in their journey with us.

We look forward to hearing from you!
