Tight-knit teams of talented people working together and working hard to get things done and drive results. But then, would you expect anything less from an ambitious, dynamic, market-leading, multi-million-pound retail business? After delivering our 20% market share goal of “one in five” in 2023, we have launched our new goal - Mission 365 - targeting £365 million of sales

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and driven Accounts Payable Manager to lead our Purchase Ledger function and ensure the accurate, timely and controlled processing of supplier transactions across the business.

As a key member of the Finance team, you will be responsible for the end-to-end accounts payable process, managing a high-performing team, maintaining strong financial controls and delivering an excellent service to internal stakeholders and suppliers.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing listed retail business and play a significant role in driving process improvements, enhancing controls and supporting wider finance transformation initiatives.

  • Oversee the end-to-end supplier invoice process from receipt through to payment.
  • Ensure accurate coding, approval, posting and matching of supplier invoices.
  • Manage supplier statement reconciliations and prompt resolution of queries.
  • Ensure payment runs are prepared accurately and in accordance with delegated authorities.
  • Monitor aged creditors and outstanding balances.

Financial Control & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain strong segregation of duties across vendor setup, invoice processing and payments.
  • Review and approve key transactions and exceptions.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT and accounting requirements relating to supplier transactions.

Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate and streamline processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across Accounts Payable.
  • Utilise ERP and workflow systems to improve efficiency and reporting.
  • Support finance transformation and system enhancement projects.

Stakeholder & Supplier Management

  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex supplier issues.
  • Work closely with Buying, Operations and Finance teams to improve ways of working.
  • Ensure a professional and responsive service to the wider business.

Reporting & Month End

  • Ensure timely completion of period-end activities.
  • Maintain AP-related balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Provide reporting and analysis on payment performance, creditor balances and team KPIs.
  • Support cash-flow forecasting and working capital management.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience managing a Purchase Ledger or Accounts Payable function.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls and governance.

  • Retail, FMCG or multi-site business experience.
  • Experience within a listed company or regulated environment.
  • Experience of shared service operations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or similar ERP systems.
  • Accounting qualification (AAT, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).

Personal Attributes

We are looking for someone who:

  • Leads by example and enjoys developing people.
  • Has a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Is highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Builds positive relationships at all levels.
  • Is resilient and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Takes ownership and delivers results.

Why Join Us?
