Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in alignment with the applicable collective agreement, to finalize the number of positions filled.\nRole Title: Engineer (Standards - Underground) & Engineer (Standards - Overhead)\nAs an Engineer, you provide a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Engineer develops standards and specifications; participates in short- and long-range strategic planning; prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies, and demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nPrepares material and/or technical specifications and standards; reviews proposals from suppliers, contractors and consultants for technical merit and compliance; investigates and evaluates the application of new technologies\nCompares alternatives based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles, and recommends the optimum solution\nApproves equipment/material to be used in Toronto Hydro systems, based on test reports/Drawings/Technical data/Quality records\nPrepare technical training documents and actively contribute to Standard Practice and Standard Design Practice document creation/update\nActs as a change agent in adoption and continual use of standards across organization in design and construction stages\nPrepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies; performs analysis, testing and evaluations\nProvides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops and/or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices\nRepresents Toronto Hydro in external meetings and/or committees\nMay be called upon to act as a team or project leader\nREQUIREMENTS:\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering\n5+ years of Engineering experience, preferably in the utilities or manufacturing industry\nProfessional Engineer in the province of Ontario\nClass “G” Drivers License strongly preferred\nExperience in design and specification development of electrical distribution equipment.\nExperience with development and application of utility standards for underground and overhead electrical distribution systems.\nExperience with grid automation, SCADA/DMS systems and protection & control systems.\nFluent in the application of information technology, such as general office software, CADD, engineering records\nExperience in the use of engineering application software including CYME\nTeamwork - works interdependently to achieve higher common goals; works with employees from other functional areas to ensure resolution of problems\nAchievement - results oriented; ensures measures are in place to track achievement\nManaging Change - accepts uncertainty as part of the needed change; willing to change the status quo\nAdaptable - adapts to and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals and groups Excellent analytical, organization and planning skills\nEffective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements\nSelf-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize possibilities and opportunities Demonstrated versatile leadership; encourage organizational teamwork, collaboration and educated risk taking to develop innovative solutions and support the corporate goals\nProven effective problem-solving and analytical ability\nAbility to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic work plans\nTOTAL REWARDS \nTo support the overall well-being and success of our employees, Toronto Hydro provides a comprehensive total rewards package which includes:\n100% employer paid Health & Dental benefits\n24/7 access to Employee & Family Assistance Program and Virtual Healthcare\nCompany-paid life insurance and long term disability\nSpending account to support fitness goals (e.g. gym memberships)\nCompetitive paid time off (including vacation and parental leave)\nDefined Benefits Pension Plan through OMERS\nCareer development and tuition reimbursement\nExciting employee engagement and appreciation events throughout the year\nThis position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs.
