We arethe world’s first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.\nTorus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.\nAt Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.\nAbout the Role\nAt Torus, we're building the world's first mesh energy infrastructure, systems that protect communities, reduce costs, and strengthen the grid for decades to come. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you'll contribute to the design, validation, and building of the sub-systems that make resilient, scalable energy storage possible.\nThis internship sits at the intersection of hands-on engineering and systems thinking. You'll learn how mechanical engineering decisions ripple across the full product lifecycle-from early concept through manufacturing-and how to balance cost, reliability, manufacturability, and quality as interconnected problems. You'll develop the kind of thinking that separates good engineers from great ones: understanding not just what you're building, but why it matters and how it fits into the bigger picture.\nYou'll thrive here if you like hard problems, want to take real ownership of projects from sketch to spec, and care about accelerating the energy transition. We value speed and quality equally-moving fast matters, but so does building it right the first time. You'll work alongside experienced mechanical and electrical engineers who'll mentor you, challenge your assumptions, and help you develop the habits and instincts of a great hardware engineer.\nWho You Are\nInspired by Torus’ mission to build the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power.\nStrong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions and specifications. Must possess strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve assembly issues effectively.\nSafety conscious Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. Familiarity with safety regulations and practices related to electrical and mechanical assembly.\nCommunication Skills Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, engineers, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and efficient problem-solving.\nTime Management Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines without compromising quality.\nFlexibility Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.\nInternship Responsibilities\nBuild engineering experience by contributing to the assembly and design of products like Torus Pulse (battery energy storage) and/or Torus Spin (flywheel energy storage) products. You'll work on actual products, not simulations.\nLearn how energy systems actually work by partnering with cross-functional teams-electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and controls-so you understand how your design decisions ripple through the entire platform.\nShip design work that matters. Develop initial design projects or assembly fixture designs that accelerate manufacturing and directly improve how our systems perform in the field.\nExperience\nContinuing Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.\nCompleted Freshman year (2 semesters).\nStrong academic performance, typically reflected by a GPA of 3.0 or higher.\nBasic understanding of industry principles and practices relevant to the department of interest.\nCAD Experience working with mechanical assemblies and drawings in SOLIDWORKS.\nMachine shop and or welding experience is preferred. \nWorking knowledge of Google Office Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, or similar software.\nPrevious internship or work experience in a related field is a plus, but not required.\nEagerness to learn and take on new challenges. \nAbility to commit to the full duration of the internship program. \nAvailability to work the scheduled hours determined by the department's needs. \nAuthorization to work in the United States.\nAdditional Details\nBackground Check All candidates are subject to a background check.\nLocation + Travel Onsite at GigaOne warehouse in Salt Lake City (84040), working in air-conditioned warehouse/manufacturing and cleanroom environments. Break area equipped with refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and vending machines. Occasional work may be required at South Salt Lake HQ or Springville R&D facilities (partially air-conditioned).\nSchedule First Shift 8:00 am - 4:30 pm\nDuration Temporary from May - August (We can flex with your school schedule.) Possibility to extend as a part-time employee ~20 hrs/wk.\nCompensation $22-28/hour depending on experience (Note: We have the flexibility to hire at different levels, which may impact the corresponding pay range.)\nWork Authorization Applicants must already have the legal authorization to work in the US without requiring any employer sponsorship.\nPhysical Requirements\nRegularly operates a computer and other peripheral office equipment such as a printer or mouse.\nMust have the ability to occasionally safely lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. \nMust be capable of standing, bending, and executing repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.\nAbility to read, identify, observe and recognize details, color-coding and fine print at close range on associated engineering drawings.\nAbility to don personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to, respiratory protective equipment with proper seal, coveralls, ear protection, gloves, eye protection & safety helmet. \nAbility to observe, detect and respond to audible and visual machine malfunction warnings.\nAbility to communicate information so others can understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.\nMust report to work reliably and with the ability to use full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute your job.\nProficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English required.\nOur Perks & Benefits\nWhile interns are ineligible for benefits, we believe in fostering growth and development. If a full-time eligible position becomes available, you’ll become eligible for our comprehensive benefits package.
