As a Head of AI Transformation at Toters, you'll transform how we build software, unlock every function to build with AI, and compound our proprietary data and intelligence into product and business outcomes.\nThe role sits above day-to-day line management and is accountable for outcomes, cross-org alignment, and unblocking. You'll own direction, standards, and outcomes, while delivery is co-owned with our platform and area teams.\nIn this role, you will:\nYour mandate spans four workstreams.\nAI-native software development\nOwn the strategy and operating model for AI across planning, development, review, testing, and release.\nTake our internal AI development harness to maturity across every engineering team, and define reusable AI workflows for our main types of engineering work.\nOwn AI governance: guardrails, code review policy (including reducing human review load where AI review quality supports it), validation standards for AI-generated code, and cost and usage visibility per team.\nDeliver velocity with safety, measured by cycle time, review load, defect trends, and cost per unit of output.\nEveryone is an AI builder.\nGrow our internal AI building platform beyond engineering, activating domain experts across Product, Operations, Finance, and Commercial as builders.\nShape a Forward-Deployed Engineering function that finds high-value opportunities across the business and lands them as working AI solutions.\nBuild a compounding intelligence layer of shared context, prompts, patterns, and learnings that makes every new build faster than the last.\nDrive adoption, measured by live use cases, functions actively building, and time from idea to working tool.\nAI-native internal tooling\nMake the AI-native path the default for building internal and admin tools, with the traditional engineering queue as the exception.\nPartner with our admin platform and Design System teams so AI-built tools compose with shared foundations rather than fragmenting them.\nFree up engineering capacity, measured by engineer-hours per month, moved from low-complexity internal requests to strategic work.\nAI-powered customer features\nEnable product teams to ship customer-facing AI features, partnering with our Applied AI platform on personalization, semantic search and recommendations, fraud intelligence, and intelligent spend.\nSet the bar for production AI: evals, guardrails, degradation paths, and measurable business attribution for every AI feature.\nDeliver shipped product impact: AI features live across multiple product domains with attributable gains in conversion, retention, or efficiency.\nAcross all workstreams\nDrive alignment with engineering, product, and business leaders, and clear the blockers that slow adoption.\nAct as Toters' technical reference on AI, guiding architecture decisions and evaluating tools, models, and vendors.\nMentor engineers and builders across the company to raise AI fluency and engineering excellence.\nReport progress, trade-offs, and results clearly to leadership.\nKey Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\n10+ years of software engineering experience, including several years setting technical direction across multiple teams at Staff or Principal level.\nHands-on experience building and shipping production LLM systems: retrieval, agents and tool use, evals, and guardrails.\nDeep, daily experience with AI-assisted development tools, and a track record of driving their adoption across engineering teams.\nStrong system design and backend foundations, with the depth to review architecture across services, data, and infrastructure.\nExperience defining engineering standards, governance, or operating models and getting them adopted at organization level.\nA data-driven approach to measuring engineering productivity and business impact (e.g., DORA metrics, A/B testing).\nProven ability to influence without authority across engineering, product, and business functions.\nStrong English communication skills and the ability to explain AI trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.\nNice to Have\nProduction ML experience in personalization, search and recommendations, or fraud detection.\nExperience enabling non-engineers to build with AI or low-code tools.\nExperience managing LLM cost, usage, and vendor strategy at scale.\nExperience as a Tech Lead Manager or leading a small engineering team.\nFamiliarity with PHP (Laravel), PostgreSQL, Redis, and AWS.\nPrevious experience with food delivery, e-commerce, or on-demand platforms.\nPublic
