Senior Software Development Engineer in Test

Trackforce is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (Sr. SDET) to join our Engineering team. In this senior individual contributor role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing complex test automation frameworks, driving quality across the software development lifecycle, and elevating the engineering team’s overall approach to testing and software reliability.

Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will collaborate cross-functionally with developers, product managers, and QA engineers to build scalable, repeatable automated testing solutions for our SaaS platform. You will be a key contributor to test strategy, test-driven development practices, and continuous integration pipelines - helping ensure that our products meet the highest standards of performance and reliability for thousands of security operations clients worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Test Automation & Framework Development

• Design and implement complex, scalable test automation frameworks, test processes, and validation strategies that ensure software operates within defined requirements.
• Write clean, maintainable test code and scripts that enable repeatable, reliable, and automated testing of software functionality, reducing manual testing effort and increasing code quality.
• Identify test automation gaps across the product portfolio and deliver actionable input on the testability of software features, functional elements, and designs.
• Perform code reviews of automation scripts and provide constructive technical feedback to peers.
• Research and evaluate new testing tools, methodologies, and emerging technologies to continually improve testing practices across the team.

Quality Strategy & Test Leadership

• Lead, plan, and execute comprehensive software testing initiatives with a focus on robustness, performance, and coverage.
• Drive and implement test-driven development (TDD) and behavior-driven development (BDD) practices that promote high-quality software delivery.
• Provide input and influence on test automation architecture and design decisions to optimize for testability and long-term maintainability.
• Write and implement user acceptance test (UAT) plans in collaboration with Product and QA stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development of testing policies, procedures, and quality standards across the engineering organization.

Defect Management & Continuous Improvement

• Identify, investigate, and document issues discovered during testing; update test cases based on discovered defects, handling complex and escalated issues with a high degree of independence.
• Analyze broken or flaky test cases, diagnose root causes, and repair bugs within production or test code.
• Document and monitor testing outcomes and establish remediation steps to address failures systematically.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive testing documentation including test plans, test procedures, and bug reports.
• Review and provide feedback on user stories, specifications, test plans, test cases, and test reports to ensure testability and clarity from the outset.

CI/CD & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous, fast feedback on code quality across development cycles.
• Work cross-functionally with development teams to diagnose problems, resolve complex issues, and provide quality-focused input across all stages of the software development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and DevOps to align testing strategy with release cadences and deployment practices.
• Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior and mid-level SDET team members, contributing to their professional growth.

AI Enablement

Quality engineering is one of the highest-leverage areas for AI adoption within Trackforce’s AI-Led Development Cycle (ALDC) strategy. As Sr. SDET, you will be at the forefront of integrating AI into the testing function - both as a daily practitioner and as a contributor to org-wide quality practices.

• Lead the adoption and evaluation of AI-assisted test generation tools within your team - using AI to accelerate the creation of test cases, coverage analysis, and edge-case identification for new and legacy code.
• Drive the implementation of AI-powered automated first-pass PR review within CI/CD pipelines, contributing to Trackforce’s goal of reducing escaped defects measurably against established baselines.
• Develop and contribute reusable AI-assisted testing patterns and automation frameworks to the AI Guild - enabling other QA engineers and SDETs across the organization to benefit from proven, standardized approaches.
• Apply AI tooling to incident root cause analysis (RCA) and postmortem processes - helping engineering teams identify defect patterns faster and build more targeted regression coverage as a result.
• Contribute to the ALDC measurement framework by helping define and track quality-specific AI adoption metrics, including reduction in manual testing hours, AI-assisted defect detection rates, and test coverage velocity improvements.
• Operate within Trackforce’s CISO-approved AI security framework - ensuring AI tools used in testing workflows meet access control, auditability, and data handling standards required for a compliant agent environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• 6+ years of hands-on experience in software development or software test engineering, with a strong focus on test automation.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, or similar.
• Deep familiarity with test automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium, Appium, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG, or equivalent.
• Experience with API testing tools and approaches (e.g., Postman, REST Assured, SoapUI, or similar).
• Strong understanding of CI/CD practices and hands-on experience with tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or similar.
• Experience with Agile testing methodologies, TDD, and BDD practices.
• Solid understanding of software QA principles, test design techniques, and defect lifecycle management.
• Experience working in a SaaS product environment, particularly with web and mobile application testing.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted test generation tools or LLM-powered code review is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues to varied audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating effectively across engineering teams.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a culture of quality and continuous improvement is strongly preferred.

Success Metrics

Success in this role will be measured by the following outcomes within the first 6-12 months:

• Deliver a thorough assessment of the current test automation coverage and framework maturity, along with a prioritized improvement roadmap, within the first 60 days.
• Achieve a measurable increase in automated test coverage across key product areas, reducing reliance on manual regression testing within 6 months.
• Successfully integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines, reducing average defect escape rate to production.
• Establish and document standardized testing practices and automation guidelines adopted across the engineering team within the first year.
• Deploy at least one AI-assisted testing capability (test generation, automated PR review, or AI-aided RCA) into active use within the first year, with measurable quality impact.
• Receive strong peer and stakeholder feedback on quality contributions, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration.
