Make an impact!\nAs a Laboratory Chemist you will be responsible for the timely and accurate analysis and interpretation of various hazardous water-based waste and process samples in our Gwent Waste Management Centre’s laboratory in Newport, providing a valuable service for both internal and external customers. The ideal candidate will bring a keen eye for detail while being pragmatic in problem solving and demonstrate a strong ability to work flexibly in a team.\nKey Responsibilities\nWork safely at all times, demonstrating a commitment to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) standards, confidently challenging anything that looks wrong\nTake a sample from the beginning of its journey to its end, from receipt and booking through its analysis, reporting and disposal\nAccurately record and maintain traceable records physically and digitally using various systems\nPromptly escalate and investigate non-conforming materials, unexpected analytical results or quality concerns\nMaintain laboratory equipment and calibrations in line with local SOPs and manufacturer guidance\nPlan and prioritise your own workload while providing support to colleagues and adapting to changing business priorities\nMaintain housekeeping standards and contribute to related improvement initiatives\nContribute to laboratory projects, continuous improvement initiatives and wider business activities as required\nHandle business, customer and technical information with professionalism and confidentiality\nUndertake other reasonable duties to support the laboratory and wider business\nAnalytical Techniques\nYou will gain experience using a variety of analytical techniques, including but not limited to:\nICP-OES\nIC\nUHPLC-HRAMS\nAOX Analyser\nSteam Distillation\nTitration\nSpectrophotometry\nFlash Point Analysis\nDo you have what it takes?\nRequired Skills, Qualifications and Experience\nBSc in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent relevant experience\nStrong awareness of laboratory safety and chemical hazards\nGood organisational skills and attention to detail\nCompetent in Microsoft Office and general IT systems\nA professional, flexible and team-focused approach\nDesireable\nExperience of laboratory analysis within environmental, waste or water sectors\nKnowledge of the Waste Framework Directive or hazardous waste legislation\nPrior use of SAP for data entry\nWhat’s in for you?\nCompetitive salary and bonus - up to £28,275.20 \nContributory Pension\nFlexible benefits (access to our benefits platform for discounts and cash back on shopping purchases, gyms and leisure activities, cycle to work scheme and dedicated wellbeing centre)\nReady to make a difference?
