We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer who brings deep knowledge of HVAC system design, commissioning, and field implementation-someone who understands how buildings operate in the real world and is excited to help optimize them through cutting-edge AI solutions.\nIn this role, you’ll bridge the gap between traditional HVAC engineering and next-generation smart building technology. You will assess and interpret existing mechanical systems, support the integration of our AI-driven control platform, and collaborate closely with software engineers and our global deployment team to deliver measurable energy savings and improved occupant comfort.\nWhat you will do:\nLeverage HVAC system expertise to develop and refine detailed sequences of operation that serve as the foundation for optimization algorithms for facility mechanical systems.\nIntegrate the latest advances in artificial intelligence into our sequences of operation, and consolidate them into a single coherent standard.\nCollaborate across AI research, MLOps, and algorithm teams to deliver production-ready solutions.\nReview mechanical and control drawings, sequences, and submittals to understand system capabilities and identify opportunities for optimization.\nConduct remote system reviews to evaluate mechanical equipment configuration and control readiness.\nAnalyze BAS trend data and system performance to validate assumptions, detect anomalies, and benchmark system behavior before and after optimization.\nSupport the creation of functional performance tests protocols to verify system operation and energy outcomes.\nCollaborate closely with software developers and system architects to translate mechanical principles into algorithms and control logic that improve building performance.\nProvide engineering insight into optimization algorithm design, ensuring alignment between physical system behavior and digital models.\nSupport the debugging and troubleshooting of control logic and optimization algorithms, working hand-in-hand with the software development team to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.\nConduct testing and validation of algorithms through both virtual simulations and real-world field trials to verify functionality, energy savings, comfort, and operational reliability.\nDevelop and deliver training sessions for operations team, explaining the logic, configuration, and expected behavior of the algorithm sequences.\nProvide technical documentation and feedback to improve platform performance, user experience, and integration workflows.\nStay current on emerging HVAC, controls, and building automation technologies to continuously enhance BrainBox AI’s optimization capabilities.\nWhat you will bring:\n5-10 years of relevant experience in HVAC Engineering\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.\nActive Professional Engineer (P.E.) license - preferred but no required\nDeep understanding of engineering principles (Thermodynamics, Psychrometrics, Heat Transfer, Refrigeration Cycles, and Building Automation Systems)·\nProven and meaningful experience in HVAC applied system design and/or commissioning.\nStrong technical understanding of mechanical system design and controls.·\nDemonstrated record of stable and successful employment history.\nLanguage Requirements\nFrench-English bilingualism is required.\nIn addition to fluency in French, successful candidates must have full professional proficiency in English in order to support and collaborate with English-speaking clients, colleagues and/or various stakeholders.\nAs detailed in the job description, this position requires regular oral and written communication with other Trane teams located across Canada and occasionally the United States, with English speaking customers across Canada, and with English speaking vendors or suppliers across Canada and occasionally the United States.
