Transgrid builds & maintains the most important electricity network in Australia, providing the backbone of the National Electricity Market. Visit our website.

About the Company

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network powering homes, businesses, and communities. As Australia accelerates its energy transition, the work we do has never been more significant.

About the opportunity

As a Senior Network Planning Engineer, you will take a lead role in planning, modelling and analysing the transmission network and its interfaces with distribution networks. You will develop network models, assess network and non-network solutions, prepare robust technical reports and provide recommendations that balance technical, commercial, risk and performance requirements. Working closely with Network Service Providers, generators and internal stakeholders, you will coordinate joint planning activities and help shape the stronger, smarter grid needed to support Australia’s clean energy future.

What you’ll do

  • Lead short, medium and long-term modelling, forecasting and network planning analysis to inform system development
  • Manage and coordinate planning related work requests between Transgrid and network service providers to support project delivery
  • Lead and contribute to the Transmission Annual Planning Report (TAPR)
  • Author and review technical reports, option studies, and stakeholder presentations
  • Drive the development of power system analysis methodologies, models, and processes
  • Provide expert advice on complex technical enquiries and emerging technologies
  • Support and manage key system tools (PowerFactory, PSS/E) and Python-based applications
  • Stay across changes in the National Electricity Market, standards, and legislation
  • Build strong industry relationships and coordinate joint planning activities with AEMO, DNSPs, generators, regulators and internal stakeholders

What you’ll bring

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (postgraduate qualifications desirable)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in electricity network planning, with demonstrated progression into a senior-level role
  • Strong understanding of electricity transmission and distribution networks, the NEM, planning standards and relevant legislation
  • Strong technical capability to perform, interpret and clearly communicate network simulations and power system studies
  • Demonstrated senior level experience, strategic thinking and the ability to align outcomes across multiple organisations
  • Strong written and verbal communication, stakeholder management and technical report writing skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality outcomes within required timeframes

Why this role?

The energy transition does not happen in theory. In this role, your technical judgement and critical thinking will directly influence how Australia’s power system evolves. You will help solve complex network challenges, improve the way we plan for the future and make decisions that will shape reliable infrastructure for decades to come.
