This role reports to Senior Manager of Application Development.\n\nThis is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.Role Overview and Core Responsibilities\nLead the technical design and hands-on development of customer-facing web applications, Java-based backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs.\nTranslate business and technical requirements into detailed application designs and independently drive projects from design through implementation.\nRemain actively involved in coding while guiding junior and mid-level engineers, reviewing code, and promoting software-engineering best practices.\nDevelop and support full-stack solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Oracle/SQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and related technologies.\nPartner with production support teams to investigate application issues, troubleshoot front-end and backend components, identify root causes, and bring findings back to the development team.\nCoordinate software releases and technical changes across teams located in different geographies and time zones.\nParticipate in Agile planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and continuous improvement activities.\nEvaluate and apply AI and Generative AI technologies to improve code quality, reduce defects, automate engineering activities, and increase development efficiency.\nExplore opportunities to integrate Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI-powered search, and other AI-enabled capabilities into production applications.\nPromote responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools and mentor engineers on practical AI use cases within software development and product delivery.\nRequired Knowledge and Experiences\nA minimum of 10 years of software-development experience, including at least 8 years of hands-on experience within the Java and Spring ecosystem, with the ability to design and code rather than operate solely as a project or people leader.\nDemonstrated full-stack engineering experience building web applications, backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs in production environments.\nProven experience leading technical projects, producing detailed application designs, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.\nExperience supporting production applications, investigating technical issues, troubleshooting front-end and backend components, and collaborating with production-support teams.\nPractical experience applying AI or Generative AI within software-engineering environments, including the use of AI to support development, testing, defect reduction, troubleshooting, documentation, or engineering productivity.\nRequired Technical Skills\nAdvanced hands-on experience with Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs/Web Services, and SOAP/REST integration.\nFull-stack development experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and jQuery, along with the ability to troubleshoot both front-end and backend application components.\nStrong experience with Oracle Database, SQL programming, relational database design, data structures and algorithms, system design, JSON, YAML, and JUnit-based unit and integration testing.\nDevelopment and production-support experience using Git, Maven, Jenkins, Splunk, Grafana, SonarQube, Linux/Unix, and shell scripting.\nWorking knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs), Prompt Engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI-powered search, and AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable platforms.\nWe’re also looking for the preferred skills below.
