With over 1,000 employees and a £150m turnover and due to continued success and new Framework awards, we are looking to strengthen our Engineering Team with the appointment of a Civil Design Engineer.\n\nIDS, Trant’s internal design team, are involved in all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction support and are instrumental in providing technical support across the business as a whole.\n\nThe Role\nThe ideal candidate will have a background in Civil Engineering and will be joining our multidisciplined Innovation, Design & Solutions (IDS) department working on the design of projects covering, but not limited to the following:\n· Water treatment\n· Water distribution and storage\n· Wastewater recycling\n· Flood Defence\nThe Senior Civil Design Engineer will report to the Head of Discipline - Civil as part of a multi-disciplined team of engineers working primarily on Trant’s UK Water Industry Frameworks. They will manage multi-discipline design interfaces and integration of the Civil design elements to deliver fit-for-purpose engineering solutions and lead tasks on a major project or lead several projects of moderate scope with complex features.\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\nGENERAL CHARACTERISTICS\nIndependently applies extensive and diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices across broad areas of assignments and related fields. \nModifies or extends accepted theories and practices to complete complex assignments. \nDemonstrates professional attitudes such as creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability. \nActively promotes consideration of sustainability principles throughout the design lifecycle. \nKeeps informed of updates to standards, regulations, and best practices. \n TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES\nInterpret, understand & challenge project requirements from Client documents (project scope of work, drawings, specifications, correspondence, etc.).\nAttend Client sites as required to undertake condition surveys of existing processes, structures and assets, and promoting further opportunities to enhance Client relationships.\nBe responsible for development of the following Civil detail design deliverables to facilitate the delivery of the project to Eurocodes and industry/Client specifications:- Survey specifications/datasheets (E.g. Topographical, Ground Penetrating Radar, Structural, Ground Investigation etc.).\n- Design calculations (E.g. Concrete, steel, hydraulic, foundation, temporary works, etc.).\n- Design sketches/drawings using the AutoCAD AEC software collection (E.g. Slabs, structures, buried assets, chambers, access pavements, site layouts etc.).\n- Design schedules, buildability statements, design risk assessment, reports, etc.).\n\nA comprehensive understanding of other discipline requirements and interactions required to deliver a unified and complete design solution.\nCompliance with OHSA and regulations, ISO and the ability to interpret and take onboard other international safety standards. \nMaintain a knowledge base and keep up to date with new methods, products and developments affecting the civil and water engineering disciplines and recommend new practices or changes in application.\nSCHEDULE, PROJECT & TASK MANAGEMENT\nCollaborate closely with internal teams, clients, external design partners and subcontractors to develop and deliver innovative, compliant solutions.\nProactively drive a H&S focus throughout the design process and subsequent delivery phase, instigating development of design risk assessments to address risks identified during review activities.\nIdentify and escalate all instances of design change throughout the project lifecycle.\nUndertake technical bid evaluations, subcontractor/supplier design reviews and integrate compliant outputs into the design development process. \nWork with the Civil Design Manager to monitor design effort against budget, schedule and quality requirements. \nMANAGEMENT, SUPERVISION & GUIDANCE\nProvide technical support and guidance to site teams during installation/commissioning.\nDevelop & review project documentation for compliance with relevant Client & UK water industry standards, regulations and Company QA processes.\nManage the project specific design interfaces with Clients, external consultants, subcontractors and suppliers. \nCOMMUNICATION, TEAMWORK & LEADERSHIP\nPromote technical excellence and innovation within the team, contributing to the development of new design methodologies and tools.\nPresent and defend engineering solutions to complex problems in a client/stakeholder facing environment.\nExcellent written and verbal communications skills along with a high level of computer literacy.\nLead, mentor, and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. \n CORE VALUES\n Upholds and promotes the Company’s Core Values - Care, Trust, Respect and Sustainability.\nWhat We’re Looking For\n\nThis role is suited to technically strong, commercially aware candidates with a background in Civil engineering in the water industry, or in other closely related industries. Ideally, you would be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills/knowledge and behaviours:\nCEng/IEng registration with a recognised UK Institution (e.g. ICE).\nBSc/MSc qualification in Civil Engineering discipline.\nSignificant experience delivering multi-disciplined engineering projects in the UK water/wastewater industry, focusing on water & wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.\nBroad knowledge of industry standards, legislation and engineering principles. \nCapable of managing and prioritising multiple projects in a dynamic environment.\nBe fully conversant with the Microsoft Office suite of products.\nCommitted to continuous professional development.\nWe do not expect candidates to be able to tick all these boxes!
