The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.\nSalary Range\n$153,700.00 - $253,700.00Target Openings\n1What Is the Opportunity?\nOcean Marine specializes in ocean cargo, marine liabilities, hull and protection indemnity, and yacht coverage for small and mid-size businesses. The Managing Director (MD), Ocean Marine oversees a team of underwriters who partner with agents and brokers to provide coverage for new and renewal business based on customers' needs. As an MD, you are strategic, decisive, detail-oriented, and know how to build relationships internally and externally to drive results. Your ability to lead others in independently assessing complex risk and sell our products in challenging markets will contribute to the profitability and success of Travelers.What Will You Do?\nManage the profitability, growth, and retention of business within a location or region.\nPartner with RVP to develop and implement business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives.\nEffectively manage local strategies, objectives and tactics concerning relationships with brokers and agencies.\nUnderwrite and skillfully negotiate the most complex, at-risk, or hard-to-close deals.\nCultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales strategies and identify cross-selling opportunities.\nRegularly meet in person with agents and brokers and have the ability to travel to these meetings.\nProvide strategic direction and support for team and take responsibility for coaching, training, and performance management.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nPerform other duties as assigned. \nWhat Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?\nBachelor’s degree.\nEight to ten years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in commercial lines.\nExperience leading or managing others.\nPrior management of a field location.\nExpert level knowledge of Ocean Marine products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.\nStrong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.\nExcellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.\nCPCU designation.\nWhat is a Must Have?\nSix years of underwriting, claim, operations, risk assessment, actuarial, sales, product, or finance experience.\nWhat Is in It for You?\nHealth Insurance: Employees and their eligible family members - including spouses, domestic partners, and children - are eligible for coverage from the first day of employment.\n Retirement: Travelers matches your 401(k) contributions dollar-for-dollar up to your first 5% of eligible pay, subject to an annual maximum.
