About the Role

Rain is building out its branded payments line of business, starting with stored value. We're looking for a BD and Strategy Director to own the growth of this opportunity end to end - from identifying and closing the right partners, to shaping the go-to-market motion, to working hand-in-hand with product and engineering to make sure what we sell is what we can ship.

This is a senior individual contributor role reporting to the Head of Payments.

The Impact You Will Have

• Own the growth strategy for Rain's stored value / branded payments business, from opportunity identification through deal close and launch

• Drive business development: build and manage a pipeline of prospective partners, lead commercial conversations, and structure deals that work for both sides

• Shape the go-to-market strategy for branded payments - positioning, target segments, pricing structure, and launch sequencing

• Partner closely with Product and Engineering to translate market and partner feedback into roadmap input, and to keep commercial commitments grounded in what's buildable

• Work cross-functionally with Go-to-Market and Partnerships to ensure a coherent, coordinated approach to the market

• Set strategic goals for the branded payments business and report progress against them to leadership

• Represent Rain externally with partners, prospects, and industry stakeholders as a credible voice on stored value and branded payments

What We’re Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in financial services and branded payments, with GTM and strategy work in financial services, payments, or technology preferred

• Intellectual curiosity, commercial judgment, and a bias toward action

• A track record in business development or partnerships, ideally with direct exposure to deal-making and commercial negotiation

• Experience working cross-functionally with Product and Engineering - you can speak both the commercial and technical language and translate between them

• Demonstrated ability to operate at a strategic level: setting goals, prioritizing among competing opportunities, and building a plan where the market or product hasn't been fully defined yet

• Strong communication skills, written and verbal - you'll be representing this business both internally and externally

Bonus attributes

• Prior experience with stablecoins, card issuing, or blockchain-based payment infrastructure

• Experience launching a new product line or business unit from near-zero

• Existing relationships with potential branded payments partners (retailers, platforms, fintechs) that could accelerate pipeline build
